Sainsbury Interview- How can I impress them?

Options
I have a Sainsbury Interview coming up. I had one recently but didn't get the job.

Now I have been called for a interview at a different store. My younger sister who is 19 works at Sainsbury. Then her friend also got the job as well as her friend's brother who is 17.

:(I really want to get the job because I feel frustrated how they got the job, whilst I have more experience & I didn't get it.

I have a quiet personality. Can anyone give me tips on how to impress the Interviewer? what makes the Interviewer want to select the candidate?

Did you get any feedback from the 1st one as to why you never got that?
  • Yes, they said that the other canidates were already Counter Assistants so this is why they didn't take me. It was so near my home, only 10 min walk. My sister's friend works there (her home is just 5 mins away), she had no experience in counter Assistant job but she got the job. I guess it is just a matter of good luck.
  • You need to be able to answer all their questions which I would imagine will be based on customer service, teamwork etc. Can you remember any of the questions from your interview?
You can practice these types of questions with your friends at home. You can get better at interviews and look more confident (even if you don't feel it).
Working in a Sainsbury store will need good people skills, you need to be able to demonstrate that you have these skills. Start thinking of situations that you have been in where you have been able to help people/improve something. Think about what situations you have been in that where you got good customer service, how did that make you feel, what was better about it?
It is possible that the other people showed they were more enthusiastic for the post, especially if you are a bit quiet. The interviewers won't know that about you and can only judge on what they can see.
There are three types of people in this world. Those who can count and those who can't.
  • In my Sainsbury's interview, when they asked what I knew about the company, I had some figures and notes written on an index card to discuss and compared how good it was in relation to other supermarkets :).

Hi in customer service jobs you may be asked questions about confidence, dealing with the pubic - maybe how you would react to customers who were aggressive, they might see your quietness as a sign of a lack of confidence? try and find your unique selling point can you offer some special skills for the job? look interviewer in the eye - talk to all of them if theres a panel.

Job interviews are scary but they are just as scary for the people who are doing the interview

    Good luck

Apart from people skills, show a hard work ethic, a willingness to learn and a committment to the Sainsbury's brand (eg say you shop at the store and have noticed how well it treats it's customers, the quality of the products and the services, and how you'd like to be part of that team).

Good luck to you, let us know how you get on.

  • Thanks everyone for the replies, I will try doing what everyone said.

I am generally a shy, quiet, calm person and I have always been this way since school. In my school reports the teachers always said and not just that family & friends say "she is sooo quiet!". I got sick of myself and wanted to desperaretly change and try being a different person.

So I left sixthfrom & straight away chose to do "Radiography", I was in clinical placement and working with patients. It was stressful and I did well in some parts but not others, I did come a long way though considering I was a quiet person but left the course last September.

Now I am 22 and I don't have time to waste, If I have this personality I will forever get rejected for courses. I need to be that confident, bubbly, over enthusiastic person with a louder voice. My sister got the job because she is good at talking. Now me I stutter quite a bit out of nerves but I plan to do it differently this time:)
