Hi,
This job has been advertised in our paper this week and I just wondered whether anyone knew anything about it, they are saying that it is to be your own boss and therefore you are a franchisee. Work about 40 hours a week and wages about £350 - £450 per week.
It just seems a bit easy - is it some kind of con?

You will get paid per number of readings done. The leccy compnaies allow about 2 mins per reading for their on-payroll staff.. see how that compares to what is on offer!
So more pay if you work when people are home.. (evenings, weekends) ... then you have to revisit streets to get people who were out. Dull work, good exercise!Debt free 4th April 2007.
New house. Bigger mortgage. MFWB after I have my buffer cash in place.0 -
Does sound a bit dull but I suppose gets you meeting lots of people and is something that could be done out of "normal" work hours so OH could have our daughter, therefore eliminating the need for childcare expenses so the wages would be all mine, not half the childminders.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 607 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts :T

Dont know about this specifically but for self employed couriers my previous employers used to pay £X per SUCCESSFUL delivery (or in this case reading). If you attempted to make delivery/ a reading and the person wasnt in etc then you dont get any money for it. Worth checking all the termsAll posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

I doubt if it's easy money.

No I don't mean that it is easy money as such for doing nothing, but for somebody who is a qualified legal secretary I don't get paid this much and this job seems like a job that pretty much monkeys could do - knock doors, ask to read meter, take reading and relay information - yet they get paid a rather attractive wage? I just thought that there must be a catch. Have looked through the website and they say that I have to be able to do on average 40 hours and I have to pay £750.00 for the franchise?Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 607 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts :T

£450/week = £23400/year
When I say easy money, I mean I'd be surprised if you actually get paid this type of salary for that type of job. There are a number of contract companies advertising for Meter Readers in my local paper.
But certainly check things out if you're interested in the job.
Good luck
