Ignore Santander Zero Credit Card Preload

Hi,

Getting a little confused with using this card abroad to withdraw cash at ATMs, from what I read there are no fees with cash withdraws but there is a 27.9% APR once money is withdrawn.

To get around this couldn't you just load the credit card account with money or does the 27.9% interest apply with each withdraw?

Many thanks in advance for helping out.

I wish I'd a pound for every time this question gets asked on here (and 50p for every time it gets asked about the Halifax Clarity card). ;)

It's against the card's T&Cs to pre-load it in the way you describe. That said, it may work and save you a few pence...but if they block your account whilst you're away would that be a problem?

You don't need to put it in credit in advance. You can pay on the day of withdrawal by FPS. When I pay from Barclays to Santander Zero, the money appears on my Santander online banking in under ten seconds, hence no interest.

I applied for the Santander Zero card a few months back. The advisor selling it to me actually said that I could pre-load it and that's what he did when going abroad.

It wasn't until I asked in a different Santander branch that I was told that I couldn't and that they could put a block on the card.

I did complain as the 'pre-loading' was the main reason for me accepting the card, but kept it as it is still a good card for 0% purchases abroad.
As my Mum always said "Look after the pennies and the pounds will look after themselves"

I think it's best not to take advice from their salesmen too seriously. When I was in there they tried to convince me to lie on an application form and claim I didn't have any student accounts elsewhere and open one with them!
