Statuory Maternity Pay

Hi,

I am due to start my maternity leave on 02.04.12.
I have just received my maternity letter from work and it says my SMP ends 30.09.12.
I did a questionnaire on Direct Gov website and thought my SMP would take me up until 30.12.12. I thought i got 6 weeks at 90% of my salary which would take me up until 11.05.12 then 33 weeks of SMP of £128 p/w which would take me 28.12.12.

Am i wrong?

  • thats exactly what i though you would get. i'm planning on starting my maternity leave from beginning of july and as far as i was concerned i thought i would get exactly as you are stating because i'm pretty sure that's what we are entitled to. very very bad if thats all we are entitled to. hope that they have made a mistake.

The letter from work is incorrect. If your Maternity Pay starts on 02/04/12 then it will end on 30/12/12 (Smp is paid over 7 days).
I would write back to your Employer pointing out their error.
You are correct in thinking you get 6 weeks at 90% then you will get 33 weeks at £135.45 which is the new SMP rate from April 2012.
  • so glad to hear this.hope you get it sorted and enjoy your time off with your new baby.
