Hard water and dishwashers

Is there anything you can do when you live in a hardwater area? Everything metal that comes out of my dishwasher is covered in white deposits/oil type mottled marks.

I use f*nish tablets and rinse aid, and regularly top up the salt. Any other ideas?

My dishwasher has a setting for the hardness of the water (so the salt effectively softens the water) have you checked your manual? I don't have issues with metal, but my cheap glasses from ikea get white...

dishwashers work on soft water, so are you putting ENOUGH salt in the salt reservoir?? when i had a dishwasher, i lived in an area with dreadfully hard water and accordingly to my manual at that time. the salt needed to be refilled every 8-10 washes.

my daughter on law doesnt put salt in as separate thing, she uses the detergent tablets with the extra salt and stuff in them, but it just isnt enough, and you can see that it isnt by the end results.
