Handheld MS Excel Device

I need a handheld device that will allow me to develop Microsoft Excel Spreadsheets. Idealistically it will be fully featured allowing me to program VBA, but I suspect I will be limited to simply producing layouts & formulae due to the constraints of the device.

Thoughts & Suggestions please!!:D

I suspect you may be right Tony on the limitations on a handheld device.

Even then, I am not a fan of Windows Mobile 2003 and Pocket Excel - far too limited for me. I take it you have seen this?

Much as I hate them, I think this is one where a laptop comes into its own.

I would recommend Dell AXIM - very good kit for the price and I have had no problems (see to have on offer at the moment if I recall correctly).

Not sure how portable your device needs to be but the old Toshiba Libretto series are very portable l- depends how much procesisng power/memory/disk space you need theough.

Disk space & processing power isn't a massive consideration, after all it would be used for office applications primarily. I think the advice re PDA's is sound and it's probably not the best solution. What can I expect to find in between PDA's & Laptops. I do have & use a latitude (dell) and it's simply too big. Something tells me that I probably wont find what im looking for as it would be beyond my budget!!

I'm not an expert in this field, but I remember drooling over Psion 7s a few years back. But then I do carry a large handbag and I am a huge Psion fan. No idea if you can still get them or whether they do what you need, but they fit the bill of something between a PDA and a laptop, methinks.

You should probably try to decide which operating system you need. Laptops will tend to run XP (linux fans - please don't shoot me) but handhelds tend to run something very different like CE, Pocket PC, PalmOS etc. If you want to use the standard office version of Excel for your spreadsheets then you'll probably need something which runs XP, the Excel which runs under Pocket PC (on an iPaq for instance) has nothing like the functionality of the full Office version. I don't think XP can be run on a 'handheld' so you'll probably be looking for a mini laptop.
