Lecturer/Boss gives out 3 jobs to people on my course. I am one of them. One girl works there about 3 days a week. Other one works 1 day a week. I on the other hand haven't started because classes aren't full (and haven't been for the past 3 months...)
Grr.
Offered to do other days but can't because the first person got all the hours!
What is the point? Can't even apply for other jobs in case my lecturer texts me the day before and tells me to work the next day (which has happened, but I've not 'started officially yet'.)

I don't really understand the scenario so can't really comment. Perhaps you could be a bit clearer about the issue?:hello:0

I'm meant to be working as a dog trainer part time doing one day a week. This other person who was employed at the same time and is at the same level as me is doing around 3-4 days a week but I haven't even started yet. I don't see how it's fair they can have that many shifts when I'm not allowed to start yet because the classes I'm supposed to be doing aren't full.
Feels like I'm being misled.0 -
Sounds like you've not got a job, I'd apply for other jobs0

I don't understand why you can't apply for other jobs. I suspect it's because there's more that you haven't told us. Are you in fact on a training course to become a dog trainer, and part of the course is that you are supposed to do some training?0

Yes I am on an animal training course. The boss/lecturer advertised a vacancy in which she hired 3 people.
However it feels like I'm going around in circles with it all.0 -
have you actually asked why the other person has so many shifts when you have none?Birthdays are good for you. Statistics show that the people who have the most live the longest.

Life is unfair. You need to get used to it otherwise you're going to be disappointed.
If there are only 3 vancancies and 4 people then someone is going to miss out. There are other places that may be looking for people. If you expect someone to just come along and hand you a job on a plate you're going to be unemployed for a very long time.0 -

Nope there was one vacancy but it's been split between 3 people.
Also, I don't want to nag at the boss as everytime I bring it up she says that she has to fill my classes first but that doesn't answer why I can't have someone else's shifts.
Also, I'm finishing at my other job for this one as I don't want 2 PT whilst at uni. I am employable but being taken for a ride I think.0 -
I agree your being taken for a ride. She wants someone on tap as and when it suits her. I would imagine you're a bit unassertive - yes and the "1st person" isnt and the lecturer knows this and has taken full advantage of it.
Don't give up your other part-time job. Email the lecturer and say that due to financial constaints you are unable to be available any longer. Then see what happens, but dont do anything irreversible until she either 1) starts you in the role (which may well happen once she realises you're no longer going to hang around waiting.
Maybe contact your local Council for Voluntary Service and see if maybe a local kennels/dogs trust may like a volunteer dog trainer if you want to get experience.

p.s ignore people such as "not my real name" you're not lazy/work-shy etc, just very optimistic
