    :).

Sorry but the kind of crappy attitude displayed in that particular post rankles me no end. 'If you can't afford it don't buy it' is a sweeping generalisation which paints the picture that anyone in debt must have been out splurging beyond their means and therefore deserves exactly what they get.

Personally I got into debt when my wife decided to have an affair and clean my salary out of the joint bank account we had and change the door locks leaving me homeless (well sleeping at the car/office), and with no money at all for a month. I firstly missed all my payments and kicked off a charges spiral. My landlord then tried to take me to court for the rent that she hadn't received from my wife even though she was happy enough assigning the tenancy to her without my knowledge, and I had to fight for access to my children which meant solicitors astronomical fees at the same time as trying to find somewhere to live. I had to borrow or I wouldn't have anything now, including a job as I wouldn't have been able to get to work.

But according to the tw@ above I couldn't afford it so should have just meekly accepted the !!!!!! situation as it was and not fought for a bit of fairness I suppose.

One particular horrible situation, such as you have suffered, does not necessarily mean the advice is wrong in a general sense.
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.
