Last year (http://www.teacherspensions.co.uk/pensioners/pensioners1.htm) it was 3.1% which was the CPI figure for September 2010. Hasn't been updated for 2012 yet, which doesn't surprise me in the slightest.

September 2011 CPI was 5.2% so, unless increases are capped at 5%, that should be what you'll get.

http://www.cspa.co.uk/ - assuming teachers' pensions are similar?
  • thanks, xylophone,
yes, there is to be an increase from this April, 2012,but as of now ( feb 3rd) teachers ' pensions staff do not know by what % increase it will be. Retired teachers will receive letters in March
2012, informing them of the increase.

As I said above it doesn't surprise me that there's no update on the TP website or that the admin staff you spoke to don't know the increase yet.

These things will normally be done 2nd half of Feb or early March & probably not by the poor saps who get to answer the phone, but by the pensions systems guys or some tech savvy admin bod who you won't get to speak to. The figures will need to be ready by the payroll cut off for the April payment and will probably be done just in time for that. Letters to pensioners may follow that or it may be announced with your April payslip.

For future reference make a note to look at the September inflation figures then you'll know what you're going to get the following April. Sept inflation figs are released mid October.
