Hi guys, over the past year I have been in and and out of debt due to gambling.
Borrowing £1000 off wonga, and going into my £500 overdraft.
My mum has paid off my overdraft twice, and wonga twice.
It now needs to be paid off for the 3rd time but I haven't told her yet.
I obviously have a gambling problem. But really want to stop now as.....
I am meant to be moving to essex in 2 weeks, living with a friend rent free so I can save some money up. Also have a holiday for the summer that needs to get booked.
My work cut my hours so that's why I tried to win some back.
Everytime she paid it off. I promised that I wouldn't gamble again, but if anyone has any previous with gambling its hard.
I am 21 in March so really need to grow up.
When I move to Essex I will get my wages paid into her account so I cant waste them.
So whats changed since last time she paid it off? !!! I will say to her I wont waste it again and gamble. Just the fact im moving away, that might sort me out, and the wages will be going into her account.
Any advice / feedback would be appreciated

Hi Will
I know nothing about gambling but would suggest that you look at Verbatim's (Ithink!) thread in the debt free diaries section which is a gambling support group.

Hi Will, firstly well done to admiting you have a small gambling problem. I have seen many people in alot worse situations then you. Alot of young boys your age gamble, its almost normal. Nothing wrong with betting on the weekend football, your problem is your betting with money that isnt yours, its either wongas, or your banks Overdraft.
As for your mum, your lucky she has helped you in the past, and fingers crossed she can save you again.
Moving to Essex will hopefully make you grow up a little. Also, booking this holiday will hopefully motivate you to save.
4 years ago my son went into debt because he took a car on finance and he always wasted money on clothes and designer labels. I paid it all off for him and after that I made sure his wages went into my account. He learnt ALOT from me doing that. I used to send him £30 a week, and it would last him. After the 5 months of me doing that he had saved up £4000 and he is now in Oz living the dream.
Good luck and try and stay out of debt.0 -
This in no way is meant to come across harsh or judgemental, but while your mum keeps paying your debts off each time, shes not helping.
Once, ok, twice, ok but now for a third time. You think its acceptable for her to bail you out and also shes not helping as it puts you on a level playing field where you can spend again.
Its great that you have aknowledged you have a problem, you should perhaps go and see someone regarding this, but the borrowing off mum thing you will never ever learn.0
