On line payment - how long to show?

Just wondering, paid some self assessment monies on Monday, has gone out of the bank, but not yet showing on HMRC site.

Does it normally take a while?

Thanks :)

  • We paid my Husbands tax via billpay late on a Thursday afternoon. It showed as paid on HMRC's website on the following Tuesday morning.

    Thanks. :-)
    Have paid this way for years but never noticed how long it took before! Just went back in to check the adjustment, as my payment on account was too high last year, and noticed that it hadn't credited, so didn't know whether to be concerned or not!

    Partially depends how you paid it .... bill payment / DD / Debit card via BillPayetc?

    The last one is via a 3rd party and they then have to send a file to HMRC for processing. The other two are more direct but still have to process onto the main SA accounting system overnight. It then has to be pulled across to the SA online system for you to view it.

    Nevertheless I would have thought it would usually be visible by today. Can only assume the industrial action on the 31st may have impacted ...... which is relatively unusual for payments. Wouldn't fret about it ....so long as the effective date of the payment is today, or earlier .... there's no issues.

  • I'm starting to worry about my payment now, last year was the first year that I had to pay tax and I paid via santander online, I paid my 6 month payment via direct debit but the remainder hasn't come out of my bank for payment due on 31st which was recieved on 29th, will this automatically be taken via direct debit or does this have to be electronically sent?

    My understanding is that the DD system that operates for SA only accepts an instruction to pay a single amount on 31st Jan and / or 31st July. So if you haven't instructed a payment for 31/1 .... that will be why it hasn't been taken.

    If you are registered for Self Assessment Online you can set up a Direct Debit for HMRC to collect a single payment on 31 January and on 31 July

    But I'm a bit unsure what this means ;
