Valentines day

with the day coming up, do people want to share ideas of cheap/free gifts in the spirit of money saving? I know some people hate the day but i do like to acknowledge it

Few i have thought about while sitting here
cook dinner
give them a night off from cleaning, cooking etc
get the kids shipped off for a weekend and stay at home, PJ's all day, films, breakfast in bed. no "work, home life, talk"
tell them to have a day out and do all those jobs they've been nagging you to do for ages
clean the oven
home made vouchers
day trip to a museum or park

and the classic
a mix tape

can't really think of anythings to make. i am sure you lovely people will share things you have been given, would like or are planning to do.
Opinion on everything, knowledge of nothing.

Hasn't happened here for many a year.........DD will be 22 on Valentines Day, so it has been her day ! Wonder if I will get a card this year, since OH is currently insisting we buy her a card, give her a slice of cake, and get on with life?!?!?!

  • I like to acknowledge it too but we're really trying not to spend at the moment. Might just have a cosy night in with some of our favourite food and maybe watch something like love actually or just something we both really like.

    Hi kittycat,

I've moved your thread over to the Special Occasions & Other Celebrations board where you should get more replies.

  • Cupcakes?

I have ordered my husband some cupcakes for valentines day, though yes we will share them. But it will be 6 vanilla cupcakes decorated randomly with love hearts on top, however two are personalised, one saying i love you, the other with our initials on top. They'll come with a little red balloon and choc love heart.

He loves these cupcakes as its a ladies local business so instantly thought it was perfect.

  • Love that idea Continualdiamond. I'm planning on making my boyfriend some cupcakes and decorating them with hearts etc. I'm then going to make us a nice breakfast on Valentine's either pain au chocolat's and croissants etc or a fry-up. Not sure yet. We're going out for a meal in the eve and i'm planning on hiding love notes everywhere and making a heart shape on the bed using chocolate hearts. If anyone knows where to find these other than the card factory and ebay, I would be grateful. When we get back from the meal it's new lingerie time hehe. Looking forward to the day loads.

Sex always seems to work as the gift that gives most pleasure for least cost. Best bang for the buck, you might say.

That's a huge indulgence for what is an artificial concept!

Hope is not a strategy :D...A child is for life, not just 18 years....Don't get me started on the NHS, because you won't win...I love chaz-ing!
  • I'm a bit late to the party. But the brilliant thing about having a 'cost-effective' Valentines Day is that you can organise it fairly last minute too. I've bought my hubby a card and a small 'token' gift and we will get take-out as a treat, but we don't need a specified day to be romantic to each other.

I've blogged some other cheap Valentines Day suggestions on my blog. Search for babeonabudgetuk and wordpress. I'm not allowed to share links with you yet as I'm a newbie :(

Hope they're helpful and whatever you're up to - have a good one! x
