Help Re: DAS (SCOTLAND)

Hi can anyone tell me who to enquire to about the DAS Scheme? CCCS told me about it as an option, but i googled it and within 2 minutes some company phoned me .... unwanted phone call. Dont think it was the reputable people I wanted to speak to, so I ask you instead, if you can point me in the right direction????
Many thanks,

p.s. does anyone know if it is a better solution than a DMP?

  • You can locate DAS money advisers using the dasscotland website (the site is independent). As the site says, some of them charge so you need to check this out.

The site also has a lot of info about DAS.

Yes, Im delighted not to have the worry of submitting everything myself, ur debt advisor does all that for you. They make all submissions, and even if creditors do not consent to ur dpp ur das administrator can still approve it if they think it is fair and reasonable to do so.
It also means creditors arent allowed to contact you once ur dpp is in place, so all letters and calls stop....thats the bit im looking forward to......bliss ;)

  • FeeFeeDee thanks for your notes, the lack of contact sounds good! Our home phone is ringing constantly from Barclaycard and a bit embarrassing when daughter hangs up automatically!!

Do you know if its worse than a dmp in any way? Is it as severe on your credit record and how long for, would I be able to get a new fix rate on my mortgage for example?

  • Hi... me again! sorry!

Thanks for the above advice, I phoned national debtline today and ran through a budget with them, their figures differed from cccs (more generous) but at the end, she said she reckoned we only had about £175 pm to offer creditors and may not be approved because would take longer than the recommended norm of 10 years max. However we discussed that I thought perhaps we could tweak the budget (as it really sounded quite generous, and obv doesnt include overtime). So she is going to send me out the figures we discussed and we can alter them, and then see how the land lies.

In addition, I phoned mortgage lender about our mortgage which is on interest only, as need to get back on repayment. They offered me a 5 year fixed rate at 4.79% for the one part of mortgage which is currently on variable (to explain we have mortgage of 142k, split into 4 parts i.e. 3 different fixed rates ending between 2018 and 2019, and one part for 23k which is on variable). To convert the whole lot over to repayment would be a jump of 140 per month, or i can convert over however much we can afford - ndl said we should be back on repayment too before any das or dmp starts -

My question to Santander was, would we get another fixed rate in 5 years time if we were on a dmp or das. She said she could not answer that, but that they do a risk assessment and although not a credit check, they look at your credit file. I am worried in case thhe mortgage rates are sky high in 5 years (while we still on a dmp or das) and they refuse us to fix our mortgage rate. Not wanting to change lender or anything, but do you think we would get another fix, or what is your opinion/advice. This is very scary looking at these arrangement schemes.
    Thanks so much,

  • Glad things are moving in the right direction. Funnily enough, I've seen quite a few Scot Gov ads in our local papers for the DAS scheme over the past couple of weeks.

They said they guarantee to freeze interest (which a DMP can't always do) / no charges etc so look pretty good. Good luck
