They're still not cheap, but I ran one for the whole of last winter (in the day as well, keeping the curtains closed against the cold in my little workroom) and this winter until it packed up today.

There is another cheaper site, I have not used it, anyone know if it's reliable??
Any feedback would be appreciated.

I think i have used lamps2udirect before, the website seems familiar for some reason!
Don't remember there being an issue with them!
Sorry for being so vague but it was a few years ago now!
Do these daylight bulbs actually make it feel like daylight of does it still feel like a light bulb? (If that makes sense!)0 -
They give off the same spectrum of light as sunshine and can be used to combat SAD (Seasonal Adjustment Disorder (winter blues)) and are also a favourite of hobbyists such as cross stitching etc as they save the eyes from straining.0

If you are spending a lot of time in a small room with the curtains closed, then no wonder your eyesight is bad, still,it's one of the last remaining pleasures this labour government have'nt taxed yet..............Political?....I dont do Political....well,not much!0

I don't have bad eyesight, nor did I hint that I do......what I do have is a workroom bathed in the nearest thing you can get to sunlight, at 4 o'clock in January.
I have used cheaper alternatives, but they don't last as long, and often are not true 'full-spectrum' light.0 -
Can I just make the point that these Daylight and often what are called "full Spectrum" light bulbs are not exactly the same as sunshine as they don't include UVB rays so will NOT create vitamin d in the skin.braveheart60uk wrote:They give off the same spectrum of light as sunshine and can be used to combat SAD (Seasonal Adjustment Disorder (winter blues)) and are also a favourite of hobbyists such as cross stitching etc as they save the eyes from straining.
Second point it that although some say that blue light is more effective.Light therapy for seasonal affective disorder with blue narrow-band light-emitting diodes (LEDs). many people find that the brightness of the light source makes the difference so the more intense the light (whatever spectum) will do the trick quicker than a lower power but full spectrum.
Final point Vitamin d at an effective level is quicker, cheaper and does you far more good as well as sorting out the SAD Couple of these 50,000iu at the start of the Winter followed by one every fortnight through the Winter should eliminate the SAD and halve your risk of Breast cancer and Colon Cancer so as 100 (probably 10 yrs Winter use supply) costs only £20ish they work out cheaper than the bulbs and will have a more farreaching effect on your overall health situation. My weight loss following Doktor Dahlqvist' Dietary Program

This site specifically forbids the giving of any medical advice, and my post did not refer to SAD.
I simply wanted to point out a good price for a clear light in which to work in winter. The computer engineer who worked here last month immediately ordered some for both his home and his office.0 -
It isn't as black n white as that Ted and you should not give out that impression. Please be aware that this is a 'hot topic' in medicine and is by no means as simple as he makes out. Some recent articles to give a more balanced view for those who are interested. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?db=pubmed&cmd=Retrieve&dopt=AbstractPlus&list_uids=17145139&query_hl=2&itool=pubmed_docsum

As far as I am aware no medical advice is allowed on this bb so please check with your family dr before embarking on any 'self medication' based on the info of an unverified source such as this website!Happiness is wanting what you have, not having what you want.

If you examine my post carefully you will see I was not replying to your post but to braveheart60uk'swendym wrote:This site specifically forbids the giving of any medical advice, and my post did not refer to SAD.

If you look at the blue writing you will see that these are links to offsite sources so the information provided is not coming from this site but is linked directly to those off site sources together with the responsibility for the accuracy of that information.
I am not in any way disputing the fact that these will be more comfortable lights to work under and for craft/needlework will be just fine. I merely wanted people with SAD not to be misled into thinking that full spectrum was actually more beneficial for SAD than any other Bright light source. My weight loss following Doktor Dahlqvist' Dietary Program
