P60

I have a simple question about P60. I will try to make this as straightforward as possible.

example:

1. Employment starts June 2009
2. Employment ceases June 2010
3. Employer issues P45 for April-June 2010
4. Where is my P60?
5. Employer claims that since I haven't worked for the entire 2009-2010 tax year they don't have to issue a P60...

I have never heard of this before, shouldn't they issue me with a P60 for the tax year ending 5 April 2010 and the P45 after this? or should the P45 cover the entire period June 2009 - June 2010?

Correct - you have to be in employment with that employer come the end of the tax year for them to do a P60 for you. As you are a leaver you will not get one and that's always how it's been.

Your new job if working will give you a P60 and if you are signing on you will get one from DWP

    OP You are correct.

If you are employed at 5 April 2010 then an employer is required to give you a P60 showing your earnings up to 5 April 2010 regardless of the time spent in the job.

A P45 should only reflect earnings from 6 April onwards.

I think the OP is on about 2009-10 P60.

It doesn't matter what year as they would have got one from where they were working at that time and if they weren't working they'd not get one unless they were signing on.

OP started June 09, left June 10 - so was working with them at 5/4/10 and employer needs to issue P60.

Right confused! You got a P60 in April/May 2010? For the year June 2009 to March 2010? As that's the only one they would have given you. As you were there at the time why did you not ask??

Did you actually fully read the 1st post.

Point 5 - Employer claims that since I haven't worked for the entire 2009-2010 tax year they don't have to issue a P60...

They didn't get a 2009-10 P60 and that is the employers reason - which is totally incorrect.

You shouldn't have to ask for a P60 though, it's an employers obligation to provide one.....and regardless of the time why is the employer telling porkies.

So in May when they were still there they never got it and now they are telling them they do not get one. I have asked for mine the past to make sure I got it by the deadline date
