Meeting DJ

Hey everyone,

We are meeting with a DJ tonight, we havent booked him yet as he prefers to meet with his customers before booking and so that our wedding day isnt the first time we meet him.

Anyhow, im wondering what questions i should be asking him if any? and wondered if any of you have a suggestions

Thanks in advance

  • That sounds like our dj, he has marked down our date but were not meeting him until nearer the time to actually book. He was recommend by our venue so we know he has the proper equipment etc. I'll probably just ask about his insurance and testings etc. Our dj has given us a number of song we can choose as "must play" so I guess we might talk about song choices and what selection he has etc. I'll make sure I get a contract with all the details and receipts of payments :)

As for his full play list & whether there's any flexibility.
How long does he play for.
Is all of the equipment, eg amps, speakers, lights etc included.

Also, check what restrictions your venue has, eg insurance or maximum noise levels.

Our dj will also meet with us nearer the time,i have jotted down some songs i would like played during the evening as suggested when we called him to book and also mine and oh's first dance and mine and my dads song.
Alot of venues need a dj who has his own liabilty insurance have u found out about this? some djs who i called didnt have it so therefore couldnt be hired.
  • He might ask you - does your venue have a noise limiter that cuts power out if it is too loud (been to a wedding where that happened!)

    Thanks your replies,

He seems very professional, he said that he will liase with the venue cause they will need copies of his PL insurance and PAT certficates especially as its a council building.
We are doing an 'evolution of dance' as our first dance and he will happily mix the songs we want and said he will have a play about with the mix and let us have a listen prior to the day. He is also very reasonable at £175 for 7-12pm.

Im just making sure that there arent some very important things i should be asking that he hasnt already mentioned. He is very experienced in weddings and now specialises in wedding and has a decicated wedding website.

I would ask if he takes requests on the night from guests. Can you use his mike - if a friend wants to make a speech etc. Does he use decks or a computer, if computer does he have a back up.
Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....
