Was she sick BECAUSE of the feather duvet? I only ask because my boyfriend when I was 15 was sick in our tent because I had a feather pillow and he was allergic to it! We had to get rid of our feather filled sofa as our son has asthma and I was worried it was irritating it. If you're worried about col I give my kdis a fleece blanket to use over/under their duvet (same as when we're camping) and that keeps them toasty warm.

  • I remember once hearing a story about someone who tumble dried pillows and they caught fire so be very careful. I suspect they were synthetic material though and were probably left in the dryer for too long. Its always made me wary of tumble drying duvets and pillows!

My son has a Silentnight Hi Therm duvet which I can highly recommend if you end up having to buy a new one. They are not cheap but worth the money.

I found tumble drying feather filled duvets and pillows the only way not to have them smelling rather oddly....even when they have been hun out to try they go a bit musky so i always tumble dry them now with no problem

Thanks for the replies. I'm being MSE and still drying it over some chairs next to the radiator but will tumble it to air it and make sure that are no damp spots.

Thanks for all the ideas, we do have sleeping bags, but they are a bit restrictive for every night! I know what you mean about the weight Meritaten - that stuck with me from being a kid and I still need the full weight of the duvet even in the Summer!

This duvet is only a couple of months old so we won't be getting another for a long while yet. It's years since she's been sick, so I reckon we'll chance it ;)

    Thanks again!

I agree with you if your sleeping bags are mummy shaped ones but you can buy cotton lined and faced square end ones for indoor or caravan use quite cheaply and they're not restrictive at all, even for adults.
