DON'T Pay Your Mortgage Off Early!!!

Some people think it's mad to invest all of your money in your house. Others think it's mad to invest all your money in your pension. Investing all your money in shares is insane to others. Still more think that leaving your money in cash is mad because they will lose value over time due to inflation.
Not one person (except mi'laddo here) thinks that diversification across all of these sectors is mad, and he thinks it is because of mediocre returns. Yep, it'll not make you into a millionaire but it'll not leave you broke. You don't have to be a financial expert to understand that.
Well, I for one never expect to be a millionaire, so no loss there. I just expect to get good safe returns from my hard-earned savings. Over the last eleven years that what I have gotten, without any drama, or trauma.
Ask the guys who lost their shirts on Tech stocks when they jumped on that bandwagon if they would have preferred so called "mediocre" returns...0 -

Ermmm, when did I ever say I was? Let me look back at all the messages.... ummmm, no not here... ummm, nope, not there...
Oh I know! I mentioned that some people spout mad "get rich quick" theories on here, cracking on their experts and leading people into financial alleyways.. and now you're trying to say that my ideas of having a little bit of savings for a rainy day, putting a little bit on your mortgage to reduce the interest you pay, putting some into a long term investment (AKA pension) for when you are old and grey and putting some in medium term investments (ISA) for stuff like the kids going to uni or an amazing holiday or some other goal. You're saying that this is also crazy advice!
Ahhhh! I see. Hmnnn, not sure many poeple would agree with you there Dorris. Why not reply with little treatise of your own, ripping apart my terrible advice?
(better lay off the sunday afternoon port if I were you..)

The good thing is that I know I'M doing the right thing cos I'm an expert in financial matters.
Perhaps this is what was meant by suggesting that you had stated you were an expert. We all evolve - get on with it0 -

tut tut, you're just being naughty now. You deliberately missquoted me and missed off the "Buy High, Sell Low" comment (that is also currently on my signature) that I obviously put there to denote that I was being IRONIC.
I'l let you off this time, but just you watch yourself or I'll set Missy on you, she is very protective of me these days....0 -
Selective quotes are always useful. It is what sells newspapers after all.
And I did realise the irony - sadly there may be some who don't.......We all evolve - get on with it0 -
Sloppy_Saver wrote:Where exactly is this "cash flow" flowing from when you retire and have no income? I agree that once you have paid off your mortage you free up a large amount of wages, but how much do you free up when you don't have wages and have to rely on your state pension?
You accuse others of not reading your earlier threads, but you have done exactly the same. As I mentioned in my first response to your continued impolite rants, I have a final salary pension scheme in addition to a mortgage free existence.
Quite honestly, as another poster indicated you are impolite. Your jokey replies aren't in the slightest bit funny.
I don't see any point in you posting this thread in the "mortgage free wannabe" part of the forum. What next, are you going to post a "Don't get into debt" thread on the "debt free wannabe" forum? Please try that, I am sure you will get lots of nice responses and, hopefully, get banned from this site. If you don't like people trying to pay off their mortgages early that is your opinion. However, do not come on a "mortgage free wannabe" forum to do it. You are criticising people for paying off their mortgage early, which goes against the whole spirit of the forum. Please get a life and let us mortgage free wanabees discuss our subject matter in a community-spirited and troll free environment.0 -

If you have a pension then the whole thread is not aimed at you and so I don't know why you are getting so teary. My point (once again - are you sure you're reading my posts?) is aimed at people who are paying off their mortgage TO THE EXCLUSION of everything else (i.e. short term savings and retirement planning). Where else would one post a message advising people to think about adding short-term savings and retirement planning to their Pay Of Their Mortgage strategy than here?
Your thread idea was the only good idea you have had. I have acted on it, but not in the way you intended.
You're bitter, bitter man. I hope the Americans don't base their view of British People on you, my friend.0 -
WISHIWASRICH wrote:Why is this thread being allowed to continue? I'm sure the OLD-STYLERS and the DEBT-FREE-Wannabes boards wouldn't have to put up with someone having a daily rant against them. Can u imagine the Old stylers having to put up with a constant barrage of crticism or the debt free wanabes? :A

I wasn't going to post either after I did my little "Summary" post, but gosh darn it if I don't just keep getting pulled back.
I know old MoronBear was just being nasty, but I thought that he actually had a good idea (well, statistically speaking it was bound to happen one day) so I acted on it.
As a final post on this message - yes this is it. I will not be pulled back in again! Did anyone notice that the ones who were fighting hardest against me (and trying to get my message stream deleted and me kicked off the system) were the ones who DID have pensions and savings and so believed in everything I said? Why didn't they want other peope to hear the message, which was, all together now:
Don't put all your money onto your mortgage at the exclusion of rainy day and retirement savings!
You've been a wonderful audience. Good night!0
