Just paid NICs Class 2 online Direct Payment

And my statement now reads like this: "HMRC NI CONTRIBUTI 400000000024606211 31JAN12 23:24 - £158.60 Out"

Which is DIFFERENT to the reference number I put down when paying the bill. I'm worried it's gone to the wrong account or something now.

Yet when I check the payments section on my account it's MY reference number from the bill I was sent. Is this some normal standard statement reference, should I be worried?

Run it through this Ref checker :

...... are you sure it's not your Ref but just scrambled a bit? Long references usually have component parts and which can be presented differently on different documents.

  • The 400000000024606211 is a payment reference from the bank (looks like a Faster Payment reference to me), not the reference you gave to HMRC.
