  • As a student I'm guessing your girlfriend often has gaps in the day and half days. Maybe she could do mystery shopping and interview panels. They can pay between £5 and £100 pounds. Not that much but if she already has a travel ticket and goes to uni near a shopping centre she could even do the mystery shopping while on lunchbreak. You could even do them too on your lunch break working in the city.
  • I see you're determined to keep your car even though you don't drive much. I'm guilty of this too. Just to say, make sure you have a good insurance deal. If you have low mileage then you might be able to get it cheaper. Also worth checking your excess - I think I have a high excess on it being stolen because I wouldn't claim in these circs. Every little helps :)

Depends where you're prepared to live - it's only a couple of stops on the Silverlink from Bethnal Green and Hackney Downs to Liverpool St, or a couple of tube stops from Whitechapel or Bow but a world away in rent costs.

People in London (I live there too!) can be very sensitive about postcodes!

It still amazes me how people on decent salaries get themselves into these positions?!

Instead of knocking up websites on the weekend at £50 a pop maybe do a quick search on the net (or this site) that will certainly make you more money :) There a re guides galore and it's not rocket science, may I ask what you do for a living (please don't tell me accountant hehe)
  • Having read this thread I just wanted to say that some people have been a bit rude to say the least. At the end of day its up to the OP to decide what to get rid of (especially if thats his partner as one person seemed to be suggesting!!).

    - The salary is good for one person but not for 2 which is why OP is having some problems.

    - Everyone is different in just how far they can go with cutting costs, most people have to have a few luxuries to make life WORTH LIVING.

    - As soon as OP's partner is no longer a student they are likely to have a combined income of way more than most of us and as long as they are sensible will be able to pay off their debts in just a few years.

    - If I was you I would not get rid of any other luxuries BUT just concentrate on being sensible and managing your debt (i.e. credit card apr's etc).

    - Even if you are breaking even or paying some money off your debts that is a big achievement you should be proud off. Just keep being sensible when your partner starts working (rather than thinking wahey we can blow loads on luxury things now) and you will be fine.

You could move to Streatham and still be in Wandworth BC. My parents used to live nr Tooting Bec Common and all of that is Wandsworth. You could walk up to Streatham station and I think that is zone 3, thameslink (or whatever the name is now) into the City.

Often the more you earn the more you spend, if you have a minimum wage job you know deep down that you can't have a fancy car and a big house, tropical holidays etc, working in the city, mixing with traders earning 6 figure bonuses it's easy to kid yourself that you can afford anything "because I am earning £X per year"(not saying that's the scenario with the OP here by the way)

It just goes to show that debt can creep up on ANYONE and everyone is welcome to help and support on this board however much they earn. Please remember to be nice to all moneysavers.:money:

that's not a very good offer and you'd have to transfer again 6 months later.

barclaycard have a 6.9% for life of balance - with no transfer fee.

you could pay overdraft, pay off egg, barclaycard and £1000 off HSBC - then ask barclaycard for the transfer deal and ask if they'll increase your limit at the same time. then transfer from HSBC on to barclaycard.

when you clear a card always wait until you get the £0 balance statement before you transfer on to it. pay off balance - next statement has a few £s interest - pay that off and next statement will show £0.

    when is your egg anniversary?

    Good ideas, thanks.

Is there an easy way I can find out my Egg anniversary date? I can't see it online.

Yeah, which is the reason I put my salary in the thread title - certainly not to show off, but because I wonder myself how I've got into that position sometimes.

I work in Market Research - certainly not a bean counter =0)

I think that's the best post of the thread - thanks!
