  • The company should have just said that another employee told them and then if they can prove that it then shows that whilst its on private settings it can be put into the outside world.

But they didnt get in from another employee, they were told about it from another employee and then used the tech team to get the information so although they had a copy of the transcript etc it wasnt from an ethical source. Also they couldnt prove that what was written hadnt been changed as they only had a printout and not the real thing in front of them.

Would really recommend getting a union involved as they really know all the little tricks to get things sorted

Indeed. I remember reading a similar story in one of the newspapers about a young girl who had slated her boss - and forgotten he was on her friends list.

Are you suggesting that the OP lies? It seems that several work related people have seen the statements, so unless the OP wants to start calling one or all of them liars he is going to have an uphill battle trying to deny the incident ever occurred.

He has two options - be honest and hope for the best, given his length of good service dismissal may not occur (although it is likely), or he could tie himself up in knots arguing that the incident did not happen. If they believe the evidence of others over his lies he will without doubt be dismissed - and a one off mistake will have ballooned to dismissal for bullying and dishonesty.

"and then used the tech team"

And the "tech team" didn't hold magic keyboards above their heads like He-Man's sword and say "by the power of Google, I have the power" to turn into superhypermega hackers to get this information. As much as I like the idea of computer geeks being able to do stuff like this by magic, being such a geek myself I know it simply doesn't happen.

Either they were given access to it by a (presumably complaining) colleague or the posts were indeed marked as available to, if not the general public, certainly a wider audience than is appropriate.
