Statute Barred and Utility Bills

Can anyone tell me if Utility Bills such as Electricity, Gas, Water can be statute barred if a payment is not made on a debt and no contact has been made for 6 years.
I had a utility company that started chasing me years ago for an amount that I do not believe I owe, I have not heard from them in over six years and have never accepted the debt.
Someone recently told me that utility bills cannot be statute barred, is that true?
I'm just wondering in the off chance they contact me again. I think they have sorted it out and now agree with me, I can;t call them to find out because I would be accepting the debt is mine.
So just in case, I'd like to know if utility bills can statute barred?

Utility bills are the same aS any other debt...statute barred after 6 years. If they were serious, they should have taken you to court, cut off your supply etc long before now. Statute barred just means that the debt is no longer legally enforceable. Tell them to take a hike if they contact you again...using the standard SB letters of course.Debt Free! Long road, but we did it
