Hi all,
my question is this:
i am looking at getting home contents insurance (rented accommodation) but on submitting my details on a price comparison site, one of the questions it asks is, have you ever been declared bankrupt? now my bankruptcy is due to drop off my credit file in october of this year. would i still have to answer yes to this question if i were to leave getting cover until then? i only had 5 quotes and they are quite high! so i'm thinking of leaving it until then.
thanks in advance

Hi DD1966, have you ever been declared bankrupt? Unfortunately you have to answer yes.

Hi there, as the question is "have you ever?" then you still need to declare it. However, some insurers aren't worried and won't bump your premium for having been BR, others will only bump it for a year or two. Unfortunately it does mean old fashioned ringing around for quotes, but this thread lists a few BR friendly home insurers.
This thread of CitySlicker's is also very informative and he is doing great work on our behalf. When I joined, I needed a name. The forum members gave one to me...I am INAN

It might also be worth giving them a ring rather than relying on online quotes tooFeb 2024:
CC1 6537.66
CC2 7804.45
CC3 4221.17
CC4 2053.68
CC5 989.30
Loan 1 3686.44
Loan 2 5275.22
Total £30,567.920 -
Also its worth recording the call too......since being on here I've learnt to do that with most calls and they don't half change when you say you are recording the call!! Don't just accept their word being BR is OK check the T & C's

If it's any help, I went with LV= in my year of BR after answering yes to the BR question...they also happened to give the best quote at the time. Cheaper than what I was paying pre-BR!
They were still cheaper when I renewed last year. Worth giving them a try.0 -
Hi there Heycock - if you haven't already, could you add your experience to the BR friendly contents insurance thread as linked to above please? It's very useful to add new potential insurers for others to note. When I joined, I needed a name. The forum members gave one to me...I am INAN
