I saw Fury last night and thought it was brilliant. I was really captivated by the whole thing and didn't even notice when the people next to me got up and left - they must have walked past me (I was in the front row though so looking up quite a lot). I'd definitely recommend it.

On a different note, Fury was the preview I've been to - I know Fury said the film would be previewed by the red carpet interviews but are there usually trailers or do the films start at the time it says on the ticket?

    Love, Rosie.

I really enjoyed it. Some LOL moments, and moments that had me close to tears.

A very easy watch - perfect one for a date

Normally you get one or two adverts from the cinema (e.g. switch off your phone or buy expensive popcorn) then the film starts. Sometimes they play the film immediately.

Only once were we treated to 25 minutes of adverts and trailers. Don't think they were supposed to show these.

That's useful to know - so I make sure I arrive promptly rather than assuming there'll be 20 minutes of trailers first like there are in other films.

    Thank you

TBH I did not mind the red carpet coverage.
We did not turn up until about 7.30, so it did not go on for that long for us.
Shia LaBeouf - made me feel sorry for Edith Bowman.

The film I found very good.
Not Oscar standard, but yes I would recommend to people who don't mind a lot of blood and gore.

Re the films depiction of women...
Firstly the film did not ignore women and imply war is all about men, and the women are safe at home painting their nails and knitting.
Equally it did not foist a Lara Croft type character into the storyline. Instead it showed women as victims, who are trying to maintain the facade of 'normality', and stay alive.
If you want to talk about History - well women have always tended to be used and abused by the winners and looser of War for millennia. Hence the flood of refugees when conflicts start in Africa, the Middle East or Europe even today.

But equally some women have 'collaberated' with the enemy, whether in occupation or just passing through. That includes working for them and sleeping with them. There has also been many books and films made about apparently genuine relationships/love affairs which developed between them. So I personally would hesitate to make blanket statements about ALL women did this, and ALL soldiers did that.

In a War situation I would think many men and women would do whatever it takes to survive. Things they would never dream of if their lives did not depend on it...... surely that was the main theme of the film.
Normal, educated, moral men sometimes reduced to barbaric acts, and women 'enduring' men - be that being in the same room, cooking them a meal, or having sex with them.
I don't consider that makes the director a misogynist. Quite the contrary.
    Surely it is showing equality.
Men and women can in certain circumstances act and think like animals - and if that means a woman flirting with a soldier to try and save her life, or having sex with a soldier to get some food.... I would not be the one to cast the first stone.

I will not go into detail of the film as I don't wish to 'spoil' it for anyone who has not seen it yet, but with regard to the scene referred to with the rookie and the young German Girl...
I actually think it was handled quite sensitively.
It was made clear that both women were terrified. They were hiding away and their door was locked.
They understandably feared the worse, and in this case they were 'imposed on', but not beated up, gang raped or had their throats slit...
This is a 15 certificate film after all..
Of course the US and British soldiers did not all behave like Cary Grant and David Niven, but the German Women had much more to fear from the invading Soviet Army who were basically ordered to wreak vengence on every German Man, woman and child they could find, in retaliation for the horrors the Germans had inflicted on them.

Even in 21st century Britain, some women have sex with men out of sheer necessity/self preservaton..... some might be described as sex slaves, others prostitutes, others just the victims of domestic violence etc

As for depictions of life in a tank, I saw a film about a year or so ago which was very realistic about the gore, horror and claustrophobia of war in a tank. Think it was called Lebanon

I agree totally with above - typical feel good chick flick that kept my attention the whole way through - would recommend.

99% of the time free previews start at the time on the ticket. Sometimes there is some promotional material, typically no more than 5 minutes. Premieres are a law unto themselves and the movie can start an hour late if there's live footage. The edited 30 minutes of footage is a massive improvement over the extreme boredom of hours of footage of crowds of cheering fans.

NB Most people already know this and always get there early to get good seats. The later you are the less likely you are to find 2 seats together and never expect anyone to move up once the movie has started.

Saw The Book of Life on Sunday at Didsbury Cineworld. When I gave them my printed ticket they scanned it with a mobile phone which has never happened before and it came up with an error. They sent us to the ticket desk to get tickets which also had never happened before - they have always just taken the print out as the ticket, but after looking at the ticket he said it was an 'express' (I think) and just let us in. Didn't look any different to me. Was all very confusing.

After ten minutes waiting in the screen he came and asked if everyone had 3D glasses - we appeared to be the only people who had not been given any. I checked the SFF website, email and FMUK posts but nowhere could I find it written that the film was in 3D.

Once the film started the entire room filled with murmurs and people looking around and taking off their glasses because the picture was double. After quite a few people left and came back (all it seemed informing the staff of what was happeneing), about ten minutes into the film they stopped it and told us they would start it again with the 3D filter put on this time.

The film was excellent (once we could actually see it properly), and as we left the screen they were giving out tote bags with merchandice inside. I have been to previews of Wreck it Ralph, Frankenweenie, Paranorman... I have never seen this done before. I'm sad I didn't get a squishy pig in mine though :p

Same technical problems at our screening for The Book of Life- picture was doubled/flickering. We were told it was due to the film they had been sent ie no fault of the cinema.

Goody bags were given out at the end but only to the kids.

I think the pigs were one of the best parts of the film, which I thought was okay but not great.

As for all the screening issues, sadly almost none of these modern day cinemas, especially the multi-screen complexes, employ anyone who could be truly considered to be a PROJECTIONIST !!! No where near :(

That is someone who fully understands the technical aspect of running a Film Projector, be it old school, new school, digital or 3D.
Also many of these places are NOT even interested in actually following the instructions that allow a film to be shown as intended.
For instance most projectors when showing a 3D film should have the bulb removed that is used for a 2D film and replaced with one that is about twice as powerful & bright. Otherwise the light levels are just too low and almost everything is dark and gloomy.
I understand quite a few film directors (major ones) have taken cinemas to task over this many times because they just don't do it.
There are 10 types of people in the world. ‹(•¿•)›
