Tues 31st Jan What small DFW things will you be doing

Tues 31st - What small DFW things will you be doing?!
When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free :money:

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important

Hi little pink purse, thanks for starting us off. :)

:hello: to everyone else who posts later.

Crikey it is a scary day in the escy household... OH finishes up work today. It's fine really, he got paid last week as normal and will get 3 and a half months pay at the end of Feb so with cut backs/mega frugalness we should be fine technically until June. We want to use the cash to pay off some debts though so really he needs to find a job by March so we can do that...Eek, scary business.

I've been increasingly thinking about using my credit card too  We need to get a bed (still on the mattress on the floor - like camping every night in our house :rotfl:) and a few little bits to finish it off (for now...). I'm thinking that if I put a few essentials on my credit card then we can start paying off from next month, although obviously I'm paying off a higher balance so it will still take longer...but at least we'll have a bed!

Brizzle - thanks for your kind words yesterday :) The search is definitely on. I got this job and payrise when we had a wedding to pay for so I'm sure I can do it again.

Hmmm, what small things can I do today???
    Brekkie from home
    Cuppa in work
69p can of soup for lunch
    Not getting the bus

  • Afternoon All:) It's blooming feezing here - but won't put the heating on whilst just me in the house. An extra layer will do - I'm thinking maybe the duvet would do :rotfl:Not really going to be condusive to getting much work done :D

    List for today:
    Gym class - use membership
use up eggs going OOD today for lunch - freeze a couple of whites maybe
meal plan based on what's left in freezer and my lovely meat box that is coming later in week (bought with voucher). I can then plan what cupboard items I need to go around this. My continuing mission to explore backs of cupboards and boldly go where no-one's been for a while to use things, is working a treat :rotfl:
    do some work
chicken risotto (HM stock and remnants of a chuck) and left over mincemeat pleat (from Christmas Day) for tea
    couple more items on fleabay
pray for watchers to turn in to bidders :o

    Hey guys

    Back again…

Perni - yip, been on freecycle - things always go before I've even had a chance to reply to the add :( In a way I just want to get it over with because the longer it drags on the more angry I get with OH's parents - they were storing his bed for him in their garage and chucked out/burnt/gave away/lost the bottom of it so it's now completely useless. Boo.

Oooh, OF - you've inspired me. Really must get ebaying again. :T

Few more small things from me today:

I thought I had to buy an airbed for friends visiting in Feb but one couple can't make it now so I don't need to buy it until April when we're getting more visitors. Secretly pretty pleased about this £35 saving, although I'm obviously a bit sad they can't make it ;)

I also got an email from the payroll dept saying they calculated one of my benefits wrong and they'll fix it for Feb and give me a readjustment for Jan's mistake. :T Can't quite remember how much it is but think it's about £25 so that'll feel like an extra £50 at the end of Feb.

I've asked for overtime for 4 extra hours I need to work next week as I need to work til 7pm a couple of nights - may as well get what I'm due… They won't be getting any more free time off me  If they say no I'll work 12-7, rather taking overtime. Either is good with me tbh, but extra cash would be best!

On a bittersweet note, the place we're going to on holiday got flooded and we've had to rebook another camp - we've booked a cheaper one so hopefully getting a £25 refund (depends on whether we need to pay an admin fee for the change to reservation even though it's not our decision…).

Oh well, there are my musings!

    Lunch time now! :)
