rumor spreading

Hi advice please,I work in the NHS and a couple of weeks ago was talking to a colleague who informed me that a couple of managerial posts were going to be swapped around at work.
I then passed this information on to another couple of colleagues .
I have heard today from a colleague that one or two people in authority or not happy about this and intend to " see me ".
Best way to deal with this please . ..........thank you

  • Suggest that they stop drip feeding information to people who can't keep their mouth shut if they don't want it 'out there'.

Or apologise and don't do it again.
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

Advise you didn't realise it was 'classified info' as it was something that came up during an innocent discussion (mentioning no names as to who told you). Then I'd apologise : - )

I don't think there is anything to apologise for. If they let their precious information out and OP is not made aware of any embargo on the information, then they have nothing to complain about.

Maybe but is it worth getting your card mark by being difficult?
The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!

4 people on the ignore list....Bliss!

Those in authority did not necessarily "let their precious information out" though. It may have been overheard by someone that should not have been where they were, or indeed by someone reading documents that they should not have. Equally it could have been passed on by a PA/ secretary who had been asked to type up a report (and in the NHS they would be well aware of the need for confidentiality).

Given that there are redundancies going on at the OP's place of work, an apology would be the best action to ensure it is not pursued further.

    Explain, but don't apologise.

Apologising when no apology is due also marks your card.
