Cheap kitchen towel

I noticed the other day that 4 packs of Nicky kitchen towel were 98p in Poundstretcher, or 2 for £1.89 (94.5 each, 23.6p per roll of approx 52 sheets as far as I can work out as they give the length of the roll).
Sainsburys basics jumbo 120 sheets per roll is £1.35 for 2 rolls which is 67.5p a roll or if compared in size 67.5/120 x 52 = 29p for the same size roll.
So the Nicky is under the cost of basics roll. And its very good quality. HTH
Oh I also noticed it in in Wilkinsons but didn't notice the price. We don't have a farmfoods here.

I just use cloths and wash them with my other kitchen towels and reuse again and when they become mucky they go for outside garden use or bathroom cleaning. Saves loads on unnecessary kitchen roll buying0

Staples have a good deal on kitchen roll atm. Sadly I had to leave mine at the checkout as there was nobody serving!Ellie

I got loads of the Staples stuff during one of their "glitches", probably enough for 6 months+, not the best quality though and wouldn't buy it again.

I've noticed that Kitchen Rolls have really ramped up in price over the past year or so. Whereas, it used to be fairly easy to find a branded pack of 2x rolls under £1, now i'm lucky to find saver rolls at that price!
Has anybody ever substituted kitchen roll for the big centrefeed rolls that can be bought from cleaning supply websites?
For example, on ncsonline . co . uk, you get buy a 6x pack of 300m rolls for £13.80 (plus p&p of £7.50 if spending less than £50).
That's got to be better value than supermarket prices on kitchen roll, question is are they any good (only 1ply?)0 -
As a college-trained ex-chef, I learned that 1 bacteria divides every 20 minutes. Therefore as each newly created bacteria starts dividing after 20 minutes it doesn't take long for there to be thousands ! Leaving damp cloths with food spills hanging around in a kitchen is a temptation for bacteria, so I use kitchen towels from 99p Stores and anti-bacterial sprays from wherever.0

Whilst I've no doubt that that is the caseNot using kitchen roll or anti-bac spray (I havn't used either for donkeys years), does not mean that there are food spills all over the kitchen.
They can be cleaned with a cloth and said cloth washed. I'm still here and so are many others
Also, whilst its no doubt great to have a sparkly clean kitchen, what happens when you leave your home. Eat in a cafe, walk around a supermarket. Buy cooked meat from the deli counter. Customers picking up fruit sqeezing it and putting it back again. I'd scare myself silly thinking about bacteria dividing everywhere
It was mentioned a day or two ago on this forum, (I've no idea where it was so can't link to it), but it was with regard to anti-soap and it was said that the soap dosn't stay on your hand long enough for any anti-bacterial properties to work, so would that be the case with a spray of liquid and then cleaned off with kitchen roll.
The reason for all that waffle was to say, save a fortune and just try for a day or two to see if you can get by without any kitchen roll at all.0 -
You're right about anti-bacterial hand washs not staying on the hands as long as soap. One of husband's friends is a microbiologist and if you sing Happy Birthday in your head, that's how long the soap washing should last to get hands clean all over he says.
Regards kitchen towel v cloths though.. supposing you take a clean cloth, and wash down a surface to remove a food spill..if you leave that cloth damp, sitting by the sink in the warmth of the kitchen it's growing bacteria.
Even if you wipe over the surface then chuck the cloth in the washing machine, it will grow bacteria until you either wash it at 90C or add a laundry safe bleach or disinfectant which will kill germs without bleaching clothes.
I was taught to use cloths stored in an ice cream tub of dilute bleach. That's fine when you're wearing whites that get boil laundered but annoying if you dribble dilute bleach down your new black tshirt. There's also some evidence to suggest that bleach is a carcinogen and my husband won't buy it now.
Just as we tend to use tissues rather than handkerchieves, kitchen towel is one use hygienic and can go in the compost bin.
I buy 6 rolls of kitchen towel for 99p at 99p Stores. Don't need to buy cloths or wash them, don't get bleach on my clothes, don't get nagged by husband.
End of the day, it's a choice.0 -

Gosh! yes, of course, I was wondering more than anything. Perhaps they are a necessary item to buy. I don't wash anything at 90 degressshould I be?
Oh, only OH oily overalls when he used to work with oily engines, they got the 90 degree wash. But thats all.
I use hankies as well0
