'the Lord provides in mysterious ways' having realsed post shop i got an agm chez moi tonight i thought i was going to need biscuits (and only £21 now to last till end of month). Won a mini hamper at last night's ceilidh raffle complete with 2packs posh biccies :T (i was in band so didnt pay for entry). Of course i did actually spend £5 on tickets  so OS logic may be slightly askew, but fiver was out of PM, a nd would have bought tickets anyway. absolutely it ruins any budget - worse still i find now is that my DDs are old enough to pop in themselves and pick up stuff and DH does the same thing , they only get a few things but they buy whatever 'looks' nicest never mind the cost :mad:Morning all, just found a 2kg bag of yellow lentils that out out of date 2010:shhh:look a good colour and seems to be no UFO in bag should I use or not ?
dont worry they will be fine as long as they dont have any UFOs inFairyLight wrote: »Spent yesterday batch-baking scones and soda bread for the freezer for the month out of storecupboard bits... I figure if I have them to hand we're less likely to nip to the shops...!

in practice it seems a good idea , so i batch bake , fill the oven etc to save on electric , then i find they just eat more , yesterday for example i cooked sausages , burgers and wedges enough for two tea time meals when i got in yesterday they had eaten the whole lot in one meal  so i think i will have to cook individual meals otherwise its just not cost effective0 -
My 'February GC has finished and I overspent by ......................... £2.22!! Not bad considering I reduced by budget by £50 for Feb. Very happy about that and I can still see areas where I can shave off some more. Thanks everyone for you great tips and ideas! :T

Brilliant, thanks - didn't even know they did refill pouches:o - I am a fairly recent "convert" thanks to a Mr T offer BOGOF late last year ..... I've just opened the final (4th) jar so will be keeping an eye out for offers:D
Right .... really must go & get sorted - I've been sitting (still) debating whether to use the Mr T voucher (have been yes / no / yes / no all day) as I don't really need very much - but if I do use it to stock up on chickens / mince etc then they will last at last a couple of months so have decided to go for it!Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

Hi, just declaring my total for February:
£318.64/£380 :T
I'm dropping my budget now to £360 per month - could you put this onto the front page please? February was a short month so I don't want to go too mad!
Many thanks.Flymarkeeteer: £168 and counting0 -
Morning, just updated my sig to reflect last nights spends. wento to tesc0 and they didnt have any value oats so i had to get the next cheapest as i really needed them. so unhappy as i needed 4 bags & ended up with 1 box of quaker oats. never mind i used the voucher that was burning a hole in my pocket. popped to asd@ later on and they had the value oats there so stocked up and also the belvita breakfast biscuits were on offer for a £ eldest likes them so we now have 9 boxes. the eldest has also given up meat for lent so stocked up on salmon as he is still eating fish. hope everyone has a good week.Grocery Challenge 24th Feb-28 Dec 2012 £2000/£1404

Morning All,
Bad head day today after the rugby and consequent celebration!
We haven't done any more shopping so sig is fine apart from the NSD count.
Well done to those declaring, fantastic results! We all deserve pats on the back, it really is truly amazing how much we can save watching where every penny goes.
Ok, first load of washing is a-calling me so needs to go on the line. It's a beautiful day here and so while the second load is in I'm going to do a bit of weeding and tidying in the garden, I'm feeling a bit sun deprived so it will be good for me too.
I'll probably be back much later in the day, so see you then.
Take care,

bodmin789 - I wouldn't be without mine. I have both a traditional processor and a kitchenaid (from more profligate days) and I use both. Bread is particularly good kneaded in the kitchenaid (which I think of more as a mixer) - also cakes and whisking but pastry, crumbles, soups (and all forms of liquidising) and shredding are the home of the processor
Thanks for this Suffolk lass, been looking online and think I have found the one I want - Would absolutely love a Kitchenaid, but out of my price range!! but have found a Kenwood for under half price at £56.00, haven't quite ordered it yet, might just have another quick look to make sure it's the one I really want! Not that I'm indecisive or anything!!:D0 -
Afternoon all. Today is a NSD for me - the first one in my "March" gc.
This afternoon I am planning to batch cook some coconut biscuits and some twinks hobnobs - I am thinking of freezing some uncooked since I will just eat more if they are there! I am also making the plum cobbler from the front page of this thread since I have a freezer full of frozen plums from last autumn.
Thankyou to everyone for their inspiration - lets keep going.44 day challenge

I am behind on declaring spends this week...
£26.62 Monday for weekly topup - veg, milk, etc plus a few storecupboard items
£12.93 one-off shop yesterday for meat (bought 3/£10 offer, so have a few extra meals out of it) plus a few trimmings for family dinner
£15.53 today for normal weekly topup
Brings my total to £196.70 so scraping in just under budget, but not going to declare yet as I couldn't get one item on the list that I need for this week so there'll be one more shop - hopefully tiny!0
