Maybe they are trying to defeat the bulk comping companies.

It's not just you, I was thinking exactly that yesterday. When it goes like that I just keep clicking refresh until I get one I can read - which is I think what the spammers do too :(

If you're struggling, but can read one word, just type that word in with a guess as to what the other word is.

ReCaptcha (which is the system used here) uses a known word, and a random word scanned from an old book. The idea is that you're being used as word recognition for old texts. It knows one of the words, but not the other one - your guess and the guess from several other people recognise this word and it's fed back to the project digitising old books.

I'd say about 80% of the time with words I can't recognise, the method of typing one word works.
    Competition wins:
    2010 - approx £450. 2011 - approx £800. 2012 - approx £300. 2013 - nothing so far!
  • I get almost 100% just entering ONE WORD from Captcha. The trick is to DISREGARD the word that

contains any numbers or any punctuation marks or foreign language letters or any symbols

is clearly recognisable as an english word

After a while it is easy to spot the gobbledegook nature and often similar typeface of the capture word that you need to complete.

I gained this information from this forum about a year and a half ago and it cuts down input tiome dramatically.

Give it a go and good luck

yeh the words are hardy visable anymore, spend more time trying to work out what it says than I do on the whole competition all together!
