legs leaps to freedom

hi

I have after lurking for a long time and after gettin rid of the other debt i now plan to attack the 2 mortages i have. i have managed following being used by a so claled friend to clear 30k worth of debt in 5 years and i have over come and now manage an illness.
i live on my own well bar 4 cats ( the 2 kittens will be going this week and then she WILL be going to the vets to prevent any more!!- she likes late night escapism and partyin!!)
I live on my own at the moment and i want to get rid of these 2 mortages , the smaller one first so that i can forget about the fact someone used my good nature and left me with over 50k worth of debt,
Im going to attack the smaller one first as its about 7.5per cent interest and there is now just under 14k left on it.
I do not however plan to live frugal and will be going out and having fun because when i had all the added debt i couldnt . some people may say that if i live frugal now i will be mortage free quicker but i want to enjoy life. Any extra money i do have will go on the mortage.
Please help me with your wise words of wisedom like i have seen you do for so many others. xx

Keep working at it and you will be MF soon

Oh yes - absolutely normal for friends to think you're crazy. If you tell them that is. Lots of us don't mention it to people unless we've picked up some hints that they might be in sympathy with the idea.

Hi Becky, many people don't understand the idea of overpaying on the mortgage - if you get weird looks or name calling probably best not to mention it as Lois said!

Paying off the little mortgage in 2 years is a great target, looking forward to reading your diary.

Good luck keeping your kitty inside until she goes for the snip!

  • Morning, I gave up trying to talk to anyone about my MF desires, without exception they didn't understand, and on a couple of occasions friends were quite rude. Mad. You will get lots of advice on here, you can share advice and you will know that we are all on the same journey.

Good idea to keep some fun in your life and hope all goes well with the kittens.

    Best wishes Tilly

  • i have now also given up talking to people about it too, indeed they think i am a crazy fool and i am looking forward to the support from people on here. Well have called the company responsible for the 2nd mortage today and i cant overpay monthly, i need to make minimum 1k payments and will incur a 65 charge and then when i finish if its early i get another charge. So going to put money asside and then pay off in 1k minimum chunks.
With regards the kittens had loads of response about them on gumtree and have selected a family with 2 young kids to have them both, yes i probably could have got more because of their colourings but im not in to makin money out of them and they sound like they will love them! Also had a cat refuge over to give a voucher to get her neurtered which will reduce the cost of that so will email them back today and see what i need to do to get it.
Tilly you are right people can be quite rude one informed me that ''its not the done thing'' and ''oh can you do that..'' i felt like pointing them to this website but decided that actually they were the mad ones and if they want the sturggle then they can have it. The boyfriend although he doesnt live here and rents and has a bit of debt says if i want to pay it off then great and hell support me! He knows i like lists and charts so i suspect hes hoping it keeps me quiet. Plus planning my mf stuff means im not freaking myself about researching the operation they want to give me and this doesnt cause me sleepless nights like that did , so hes happier!! Hs secured free cinema tickets through his work as compensation so is apparently takin me next week when hes on earlies!!
Looking forward to the advice and support of on here i have seen it be very good and i am sure it will also be the kick i need to do it!
Have had a cheque this morning from npower now i have switched as i was in credit, i knew i was right telling them it was too high!! GOing to put that in that isa when it clears.
Need to sort the car insurance this week because its due next week but at the moment the insurance is nearly as high as they value the car but i cant afford a new car at the moment so need to play with the criteria because something isnt right there. The buying a new car fund has 300 quid in it at the moment and i hope to get some more saved this year.
Right need to do some stuff before heading dow south for a late shift and stayover tonight.. ope ti doenst snow !!

Don't forget to check the comparison sites for the best car insurance deal and go via one of the cashback sites too ;)

"it's not the done thing" :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: stuff em! So what if it's not the done thing? Bearing in mind the done thing is paying thousands in interest unnecessarily I think we all know who the sensible one is ;)

Make sure you put your money that you're saving for overpayments in a savings account that you get interest on - then at least it's working for you while you're getting up enough to overpay.

  • hi caz
indeed i am searching the comparison sites for insurances and so far saved 200 quid just to clarify a few points because my car is now not valued as much as it is insured for as i have done lots of miles.
yeah thats the plan to put it in a savings account. The other option that i wondered was what if i pay off £2k on the mortage and then pay one lot 65 quid and then put it on a 0 % balance tranfer card and that way. This idea occured to me on the journey to southampton from coventry yesterday. because obviously then ill not be paying the interest and all and i can stooze if needed an pay off. can anyone let me know if this is good.
i dont care if its not the done thing , like u say stuff um ... i dont go with the norm anyway..
Well the women who wanted the kitten has pulled out due to no money less than 24 hours later. at work someone reversed into me car twive, and things happen in 3.. One of my employees decided not to do as i told him so caused me grief!!ARGHHHHHHHHHH....
anyway how r we all tonight?xx

be careful using a CC card as you might get charged as a cash advance ( very expensive) so better to build up savings until you have £2K or look at big mortgage and see how much you can pay off that without ERC
