Go to France, we did and saved a fortune. We were able to check most of the prices online and pre-order too, and had a great day out, and a lovely lunch too

also, we bought loads for our wedding, but in the end paid the hotel very little corkage. they charged on the empties that they counted up. Our guests had ended up taking loads of bottle to their rooms/the beach, and these were never found nor counted! (not that i would condone this of course.......it was just a pleasant suprise when i got the bill in the morning:D )

If you're going for the real mccoy the wine society have a great deal on Billecart-Salmon NV at the moment <£20/btl, I reckon its nicer than Bollinger, and dead posh.
  • I think Cava tastes pretty similar to champagne but I love Asti, so that would get my vote! the hibiscus flowers sound nice though...How about arranging a tasting session so that we can help you decide!

Cava is made in the same way as champagne and to my way of thinking is much better value for money.

Talking about a tasting session. My friend and I tested the bottle of red that I'd bought for £2.99 from Tesco last night. Needless to say it was disgusting but we did finish the bottle and were a 'little' tipsy!!

Where in France did you go and how do you pre-order it all? Is there a website that I should be looking at?
    Thanks:huh:

Tescos often do a half price champagne, and often they do a 10% discount if you buy 6 bottles. Worth keeping an eye out for the deals!!!

    I agree with that.

I love champagne but a quality Vintage Cava is as good as any champagne under £20 and better than most. It can usually be bought for £5 - £7.

Even a non vintage Cava at about £4 can be very good.

Tesco do excellent vintage Cava. Don’t be put off by the Tesco label, it really is good stuff.

Asti is too sweet for me but it is popular so get some vintage Cava, some Asti and some Pimms and forget about overpriced champagne.

    Have a fabulous day. :)

    Go to France.:j

I used to live there, and my friends and I used to buy wine for no more than €3-4 a bottle from one of the hypermarchés (Géant was our nearest), and it was lovely. Spend the same amount of money in this country, and you won't be able to swallow the wine because it'll taste bloody awful.

Since I never took alcohol back to the UK, I don't know anything about customs regulations (how much is your personal allowance? etc) but hopefully someone here will have that information for you.

There's a Géant at Roubaix, which is just outside of Lille. It's about 2 hours drive from Calais? Not sure if that's too far for you, but I would imagine it's a pretty cheap place to pick up alcohol. (Not my local one, so I'm afraid I can't vouch for it, but it's a chain, so it's bound to have equally cheap prices.)

You can pick up a huge carton of table wine for 50 cents, but I really wouldn't recommend doing that.:p

Congratulations on the wedding, by the way. :T
