Gas burners for the kitchen...

Options
Not sure where was best to post this thread, but thought as lots of threads are about food and cooking that I may be best posting here!

I will be moving into a new flat soon, and it has no oven/cooker. I am already have a slow cooker, soup maker, Remoksa and when I have enough money a combination oven. I am reluctant to fork out for a oven/cooker combo when all I need is the hob rings for bolognaise and things (plus no suitable space in the kitchen for usual oven)

I was thinking about a work top solution, cant find any tabletop electric hobs that don't need installing directly into the worktops, so was thinking about some gas burners like are used when camping/spanish style cooking.

I never use more than 2 rings at a time, so was thinking a largeish and a smaller ring would be sufficient.

If anybody has any advice/recommendations I would be grateful! Thankyou

were you looking for something like this? I would be reluctant to use a camping gas style stove long term in a kitchen, if only because they get very hot underneath & would mark any worktop you used them on - oh, and the gas to run them is quite pricey!
  • Ooo yes something like that would be ideal! thankyou! Shame about the negative reviews on that model though

For various reasons, I have had to use a variety of different options for boling - including the Russell Hobbs electric rings - which I would not recommend at all, the one I had went phut faily quickly, and the rings are not that powerful. I had two that did that.

I have used this sort of thing (still do when cooking in the garden) and they are very good. if you buy the gas online from ebay you can get them pretty cheap - from the cooking point of view they work really well. Hunt around for the best deal.

I also use one of these, really good but a bit big and you need to be happy usung a gas bottle.

  • I think my dad may have one of those knocking around from our camping days so I'll ask him to dig it out :D Found this on Amazon: www . amazon.co.uk/Cooking-Marvellous-JEA11-Portable-Induction/dp/B001TIPRN2/ref=pd_cp_kh_3[/url]

    Really quite fancy it!

Don't forget you need pans that are suitable for induction hobs!
