Hi to all in the forum
Myself and a friend are away to newcastle for a girlie weekend in April, we are staying near the metro centre ( so the shopping part is covered )
We are only there for the weekend so are looking for a few suggestions for other things worth a look at in the city ?
We did think of the tour bus ? ( worth it or not guys ? )

Also a recomendation of a good indian for one of our nights for dinner

thanks in advance :T

Akbars is a fantastic Indian restaurant - very near to the Centre for Life and the main train station, anyone should be able to give you directions from there if you can't find it. Not the cheapest in the world but definitely value for money, I think!

Things to do...hmm... we have quite a few museums and art galleries. There's Discovery which is science and engineering based with a lot of Newcastle's local history too (free), there's the Centre for Life which is also science based (definitely not free..I can't remember how much but I was shocked), the Laing Art Gallery (free) and the Great North Museum Hancock (free) which is Natural History based. Go there if you fancy seeing a t-rex. The Great North Museum also has an art Gallery called The Hatton which is free but on a different site (like a two minute walk away).

They wouldn't be my choice for a girly weekend, tbh. There are some nice bars and restaurants on the Quayside and if it's a nice day then a walk by the river, crossing over the Millennium bridge and visiting the Baltic or Sage Gateshead is really nice. :)

We will definatly check out the indian without doubt
and a few of your suggestions for the art gallery and museums

    mant thanks
  • Baltic art gallery is free and worth a visit - if just for the views from the high floors and viewing box (if it is open) - displays change regularly and it is modern art so can be a bit 'hitty missy'.

But if you go there worth a visit to SIX restraurant on top floor - book in advance (it gets busy at weekends) and you may even star spot if you are lucky (James Martin, Cheryl Cole (yes apparently she does eat!), Brian May, etc ... all been in there recently)- if choose to eat off the specials menu its great value and it will be the highlight of your weekend - Very nice dining - Great Views - And be sure check out the view from the loos!! ;):D
3 courses for about £20 and stunning food. Drinks a little pricey but atmosphere and service is great and location and views can't be beaten. Highly recommended to make sure your girly weekend is memorable.

If you fancy a bar or seven, try The Gate. Bars downstairs, restaurants and Casino on the first floor and a cinema on the top floor. Some bars are free all night, some you need to go in earlier to get your hand stamped for free entry later on. Best of all it's all inside if it rains. enjoy :)

Check out Mal Maison for special offers on food, Its on the Quayside which is also worth a stroll down.

Quayside market is on on Sunday morning, not a patch on what it used to be mind,

Dont like the Metro Centre to be honest, you'd have been better staying at Premier Inn on the Quayside. (or Mal Maison, depending on your budget of course)
You'll have a brilliant time, Newcastle is fabulous, but as with all places watch your handbags ladies.

Just to let you know, there is a Slug and Lettuce on the quayside also, all food is 50% off on a Monday.

We went not too long ago, big full English Breakfast, including tea/coffee £4.95 for the two of us. Excellent service too.
