London 2012 Olympics Discussion

Hi
I was wondering if we could start a discussion thread regarding the upcoming Olympic Games in London. Find and report bargains etc?
My experience of the games do far has been a lot of disappointment and over-inflated prices for tickets and merchandise.
Be great if it could be turned in our favour.
Apologies if this isn't the right place but it seemed the best place for it. Hope it provides some results!

You don't have to pay over-inflated prices for tickets as there are plenty of free events to attend as well. I've to date been to two test runs which were really good fun. The first one I went to was the triathlon at Hyde Park which was amazing and last August I also went to the cycle race which went via Richmond Park. I'm really lucky as I literately live round the corner from Richmond Park, so was doubly exciting. The cyclists set off from the Mall in central London, entered Richmond Park via Roehampton Gate then exited by Richmond Park and went on to Bushy Park and then Box Hill.
The triathlon was also in August, the beginning of. It was very well organised. I also went the second day of the test event and was great because there were a lot of amateur cyclists of all capabilities and ages, there were also people riding all sorts of bikes as well which was fun to see. I didn't want to go home, it was so good! The professional races were later in the day, started about midday that day. The other thing that was fantastic about it was Alistair Brownlee powered away in the final third to win the Hyde Park triathlon, his brother Jonathan unfortunately came third.0 -
and if you want the best & latest & breaking news about availability of Olympic tickets, then TWITTER is your best place.
I, along with many others on there, have been buying Olympic tickets from around Europe since June last year. Across 200 or so of us, we now have tickets to about 560 of the 649 sessions (a total of over 7000+ tickets).
NB: we're all individuals, who have somehow 'come togther' around a common cause.... 'where to find those darned tickets'. And it's been an amzing journey.
What we don't know about the EU ATRs (Authorised Ticket Resellers - the list of which can be found on the official tickets website @ tickets.london2012.com) - isn't worth knowing.
Follow me @volshy on Twitter, if you want to know more.... :-)

I thought those who had applied for tickets and failed may be interested in this:"Around one million contingency tickets will go on sale to those who have previously applied for tickets - with priority given to those who have not been allocated any tickets so far," said a spokesman.
"These will go on sale from April, with specific sports made available on
certain days giving a structured and clear process for everyone."
Reports suggest the number of tickets per buyer will be limited, and that
once an applicant is successful they will not be allowed to purchase any

Hopefully I will have a chance this time!
This big problem of course is how many are going to be available for the events most people want to see such as the track athletics stadium and velodrome, not football and road races!0 -
Hello cepheus,
Can I draw your attention to the post I made above yours?
It really is very simple to buy from the likes of France or Germany, as you can do at the moment. It is all completely legitimate thanks to EU law.
I have Men's 100m Final tickets (AT005) from Holland... :-) I have bought from Iceland, Slovakia, Belgium, Holland, Denmark and Spain.
Let me know if you want more info,

I went to a Handball test event and it was excellent! The venue was amazingly huge, too.0 -

I find Twitter about as legible as Chinese, can't tell who is replying to who or what is going on. I know the hash tag is important and that's about it! However, I've placed you on a follow if that helps!
Was there a premium on the European tickets?
How do we know who we are buying from and the money won't be lost down a hole?
I'm probably only interested in Athletics, but happy to make do with one of the qualifying rounds, possibly the ones with the Hepthatlon. 100m is waste of time!
Can't help believe it has all been designed to be be a ticket touts paradise.0
