  • rising from the ashes £260? Is that fully comp?

I'm 42, been driving since April 2007, and use a KrookLock Thatcham approved steering lock, and keep it locked in a rented council garage (with 3 locks) at night but it's still at the £1k mark :(

Can't believe I got it down to just under £600 before this minor accident :(

    £260? Wow......

Yup, fully comp - I'm 39 but have been driving since I was 18 (with the odd "incident" or 2 :o).

My car is pretty new - in fact she's 2 today:).

She's insured for being parked in the drive (I checked and being in the garage didn't make a difference to the cost so I didn't bother as I hate putting her in as it's a very tight squeeze - only done in really bad weather!)

Insured for 10k miles / year & includes business use so I've got a pretty good deal.

Hopefully it should drop a fair bit in the next couple of years once you've built up your NCD again.

Just applying for the basic Co-Op current account online now, it says on page 1:

    TRUE / FALSE

    > I have not been defaulted on any credit agreement in the last 6 years

    and

    > I have not been 3 or more payments in arrears on any credit agreement in the last 6 months

Well, I haven't, but will be doing as soon as I cancel the direct debits. Better not cancel anything just yet....

  • Sorry to ask but have you def got the right account - it's a Cashminder and I don't think you can apply for it online .....

I wasn't even going for that one, I'm halfway through applying for their basic current account:

As it has a cheque book, the Cashminder account doesn't, I need one!
    .
  • Sorry RG but you'll be limited to basic accounts - as these don't run a credit check (and don't offer cheque books).

I can't even find anywhere that takes cheques anymore!

$£%&!!! I need to pay for my pre-booked holiday in Wales, in June by cheque when I turn up (not losing my deposit even if I'm now finished with my other half). This was booked last Summer for June 2012.

    What can I do?

Oh sod this, I'm cancelling the Co-Op application if I can't even have a cheque book. Now I'm depressed :(

  • You can manage without a cheque book surely? I can't remember the last time I ever wrote a cheque (and I've not had a book since I changed bank accounts). The only time I desperately needed a cheque I rang the people and could either take the cash to them, or they gave me their bank details to do an online payment.
Loads of people don't have chequebooks and I'd find it hard to believe your holiday people wouldn't have an alternative way for you to pay. Ring and ask them.

  • mmmm difficult one - is there a friend/relative you really trust that you could give the money to & write the cheque on your behalf?

Could you ring and check as it seems odd that they don't have a chip/pin machine.....

I'm swearing too - every Sun evening I constantly get chucked off the internet. My ISP says it's BT's fault as the lines can't cope with the amount of traffic trying to use them but BT say it's the ISP's fault and I go round and round in circles.....
