No Fixed Abode form for JSA

Hiya all

I applied for JSA on the 11th January this year and unfortunately I'm kinda homeless, I don't sleep rough, just kip on my mates sofas.

I am using one of my friends address's as a care of address and when I visited him today there was a letter and a form from the Job Centre, so I opened it and it was a form asking me to write down where I have stayed for the last 7 days, where I wash and clean my clothes, where I eat my meals, store my clothes etc, why I am homeless and what was my last permanent address and what address can they visit me at and what efforts I am making to find a permanent address.

I've signed on before as NFA but they didn't ask me to fill in this form, anyone know why they have sent me it, seems a bit odd to me.

Also I am quite happy kipping down on my mates sofas and spare bedrooms, I don't want a permanent address as I don't want the responsibilies of taking care of a home, been there and done it.

Another problem I have is one of my friends that I stay at is on Incap and I stay there 3-4 times a week sometimes and he's not really allowed anyone to stay more than 2 times and he won't let me put down his address on the form, he will let me use his address for letters etc though.

Any advice in completing the form and any help in making me understand why they sent me the letter in the first place would be appreciated

Thanks
Daz

  • Was there not an explanatory covering letter? Just checking :)

How many times have you stayed with this friend over the last seven days? They're asking about a specific period of time, so if you've only stayed with him for two days out of the last seven, just write that. If it's been more than two out of seven, wait to fill in the form until it's only been two. Second class mail can take a while to arrive ;) Stick to an average of two days a week from now on though; your friend is doing you a favour and it's not fair get him into trouble.

Don't tell an outright lie, it's really not worth it.
  • Hi Elliee and thanks for your reply.

I received the letter today and it has to be in by 6th February so next week Friday.

    The covering letter said:

    Further information required

Before we are able to finalise your claim we require some further information as indicated below
''The enclosed NFA form needs to be completed with full details of your living arrangements''

I don't really understand why they need to know that as imo it's not there business where I live as long as I can prove to them that I am applying for work.

Thanks :) I won't get my mate introuble

I think it's likely because you are using the address of someone who is also claiming income based benefits as a correspondance address, if you truely aren't living there it shouldn't be an issue

it's because so many people claim they are not living somewhere so that they can get more benefit fraudulantly. if you are not breaking any rules then there is nothing to worry about filling in this form honestly. You can get advise from CAB or from a homeless charity like shelter which can help you claim all benefits you are entitled to and help you stay within the rules.
  • Thanks for all your replies, much appreciated. I just filled in the form and I stayed in a different borough 4 out of the 7 nights, that's gonna complicate things for them lol
