Putting on a bus or not?

My venue is in Musselburgh, edinburgh. I have been asked if we are putting transport on for those going home or back into the city centre. I wasnt plannin on this as there will be 180 guests in the evening. Not all will have cars and i am now doubting i have made the wrong choice in not providing transport.

I would not expect transport. At a wedding we went to once we had a coach from where we were all stopping to the church and then to the venue. We all contributed and it was useful. We had to make our own way back though. Maybe you could ask someone to organise buses which your guests contribute to? MeganMay GC - £100 per week

It's only about 7 miles to the centre; I would have thought shared local taxi's that people book and pay for themselves was more than adequate. Maybe useful to have the local cab firms numbers at the venue. The big problem with providing transport after the reception is numbers, potentially 180 in your case, not all of which will want to go at the same time, unlike say from church to reception.0

Our venue was a bit away from hotels so we thought it would be courteous to put on busses rather than make our guests fork out for taxis.
Anyone who wanted to leave at an earlyer time sorted their own transport.
Maybe if lots of people are asking you could look into organising something & asking the people to contribute towards the price if money is an issue.
I've been to a few weddings where they've put on transport & it's greatly appreciated, as you often don't know when to book taxis / what numbers to ring, etc.0 -
We did a coach but that was only to cover the 45-60 min drive between daytime and evening venue; in most cases I think the day and evening venues would be closer together if not at the same place. We didn't cater for other guests, or for them to get from evening venue to local hotels. I've never been to a wedding that has provided transport and wouldn't expect it0

I haven't either. It's not something I've even thought of. Having said that our day reception is only 300m along a beach to the evening reception - we're just going to walk along the promenade :rotfl: if it rains I'm not sure what we'll do
The hotel is about a 20min drive or more for everyone, but I am not laying on a bus to take people there. In our case everyone lives at different places so they would have to drive to get to the one pickup for the bus anyway.Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0 -
This is something we might be doing if we have room for it in our budget nearer the time, but only between the church and the reception venue (10 minute drive out of town) then back to town after the reception.
The only time we have been to a wedding where transport was provided was when there was no parking available at the church, so everyone was picked up at the reception venue then taken back after the ceremony.
While it would be nice to put on transport, I think my family would much rather have wine with the meal instead!when the first cup of coffee tastes like washing up she knows she's losing it0 -
i've certainly appreciated it as a guest, even if many weddings haven't had them! if guests do drive and have cars, will they want to stay stone cold sober all day to drive home at the end of the night? for 180 people, i imagine it will get expensive for a bus. it is handy to have details of local taxi firms though, so anyone who isn't local. in a big city like edinburgh there will be plenty of taxis available - in smaller places out of town, there can be a long wait for taxis, which is a real pain.
i wouldn't unduly worry, but it's worth letting guests know so that they can plan their budget for attending.:happyhear0
