Self Assessment & JSA

During 2010-11 I was a student for 3 months, freelance for another 3, employed for 4 months and on jsa for just under 2.

Ive filled my tax return including all details except for the JSA part. I can not find the p60 provided by the jobcentre (I definitely received it but must of misplaced it). Is there any where can I find such information or calculate myself to what tax is owed from the JSA I received?

In total I received £355.30 in JSA.

You could try phoning HMRC and ask them if they have the JSA 'pay and tax details' for the 2010-11 tax year, they cannot tell you the figures over the phone but they can post it out to you (of if you have a fax machine nearby you could ask them to fax it to you). Alternativley you could go back to Jobcentre and ask them for another copy of the P60/P45 they originally sent to you.

Also meant to say you should at least put in an attempt at a figure on your return to allow you to submit your return before the deadline, then when you have the correct info to hand you can go back amend your return online accordingly. There is no fine for amending the return after 31 January.

    Hi there,

How did you fill out your tax return regarding the different periods?

I'm in a similar position in that I was on JSA for 3 months, then self-employed for 6 months, then back on JSA for 3 months, but am not sure how to do the Self Assessment - should I fill out 3 different SAs for the 3 periods, and tie them together in boxes 65-75 of the SA103 form?

Thanks a lot and all the best,

    Chris
