I was waiting for this to turn up Unfortunately Lucas Arts are not as charitable (or enlightened?) as other software companies and do not allow their products to be given away free so you can work out for yourself what these sites are offering.

...and note their legal people are active in chasing them down, which is daft really.
Really? I didn't know that. I didn't think it was possible to enforce a patent on something unless you were exploiting it yourself or in the process of developing it to bring it to market. I can see there's no real public interest reason for a compulsory purchase in the case of Monkey Island but surely the principal still makes enforcement impossible?

Edit: Had a quick look at my notes on IP and realised software isn't patent protected, it's copyright so the above is irrelevent.
  • Please help anyone, I'm trying to find the original monkey Island PC games but can't seem to find the first ones anywhere.

Number 1 was called Secret of Monkey island
    NUmber 2 was LeChucks revenge
Number 3 Curse on monkey island (which i have found but no point until I can get hold of the first 2!)

If anyone knows where I can get a copy please let me know as Hubby wants them for his birthday. Doesn't matter how old they get they still wants big kids toys!!

    Thanks

I've got the original boxed PC VGA version of the first game, Secret of Monkey Island whcih I'd be happy to pass on complete. It needs a software patch to play under Windows XP, which is available free online (DOSBOX I think it's called), but works fine with this. PM me if interested.

Yes bizarre isnt it, you would think that they would make them freeware given it costs them nowt and in effect constitutes a free advert for their new games.
  • Following on from my last post, i downloaded/extracted the zip files from dosgamesonline website, installed SCUMM onto windows then pointed SCUMM at the extracted files. This plays great, i tried MI1 and MI2

This system lets you play the files on a variety of operating systems.. next stop indiana jones and the fate of atlantis....

NOTE: just checked, these are demo's and not full games

Ah Indiana Jones and the fate of atlantis, one of my fav games on my amiga 600. Oh How I miss the 27 disk changes through out the game. And sensible soccer now there is an all time classic !
  • I think we may have Secrets of Monkey Island somewhere in our spare room. Let me see if it's there and if you'd like it I'll post it to you.
