Can I just confirm I'm right in saying that they are "not" allowed to charge £1795 from a brokers area and if this is reference the FSA?

They can charge what they like. The FSA have made no decision on how much a firm charges for the services it provides. Indeed, recent communications from them on different business models makes it clear that it is up to the firm.

Their price is damned expensive but its no different to say getting 3 builders to quote a job. One may say £10,000, another £13,000 and another £20,000. Same applies to financial services.

Again, as Dunston says there is no specific maximum. They can charge a percentage or a fee and the amount is entirely upto them.

They cant however charge you a fee for whatever they have done so far - you havnt signed anything. However it would probably be polite to cancel the appointment - it saves them coming up again and you having to endure a 30 min sales pitch

Don't trust any company that cold calls you and tries to trick you into paying up-front fees.
