Would you enjoy it though? If I was to cook something that was out of date I wouldn't enjoy eating it as I would be paranoid.

I don't look at the date on anything. I use my nose and my best guess. The only thing I only keep for a short period (max. 48 hours in cold fridge) without the smell test is rice as it has no smell if it's gone bad.

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

Tins can be used years after the best before date. They are preserved in an oxygen free environment in a tin. There is no reason to throw them out at any time.

Not if the tin has been dented etc. The internal coating may be damaged, allowing the contents to react with the metal.

Thanks for the replies - I think the reason I kept missing checking the date when cleaning fridge is that it looked absolutely fine. Its all pink and lovely.

As it is Best Buy brand its probably stuffed with preservatives and stuff, and probably not full of nasties, but Ive thrown it.

I dont risk it with tins or anything else but this just looked so fresh. Wasnt there a story about meat being repacked with new use by dates? It makes me think about buying meat

If you don't risk it with tins (which can last years upon years after the BB date) you'd be crazy to risk it with "fresh" meat.

Im which case it should be perfectly obvious if its been compromised, the tin will wither be blown, or when you open it, there will be a hissing noise.

Talking about tins.. remember the 50 year old chicken a few years back :D
