Career prospects - CCNA

I realise I'm not going to get a decent job again until I get some technical qualifications on my CV so plumped for the CCNA+Voice certification but checked for those jobs in Birmingham - I found one within 30 miles of where I live! I checked a few job sites and the demand isn't there.
Is there going to be any point getting this certification if the jobs aren't there for me, I won't relocate as I like where I live but don't want to do a ball busting commute every day as the extra money will just be wasted on fuel. Oh and i'm the wrong side of 40 now so my prospects may be less!
Really am struggling as I can't just throw money I don't have at something that might not pay off when I pass the exams. Can any techie people give me an insight into the IT market? Cheers

The CCNA and the CCNA Voice are great certifications to have. Go for both of them.
Don't knock yourself for being over 40.
Be a bit less specific with your job searches. Lots of IT jobs out there in Brum, just looked on JobServe - searched for Birmingham as the location - didn't put anything in skills.
Get yourself the book(s), a CCNA lab from Ebay and a Cisco phone, so you can get the exam(s) done asap.
Good luck.0
