Early Retirement & Pension Credit

I am male,61 in June, and wish to finish work (early retirement), as my health is slowly deteriorating. I am told I may be able to claim Pension Credit but would I be classed as unemployed and have to claim Jobseekers Allowance first, and will I get it as I left my job voluntarily. Company pension is small and not enough to live on. No savings and single living in council acommodation.

Depending on exactly when your birthday is in June you will be able to claim pension credit at some point between July and September 2012. Use the pension age calculator to get the exact date (tell it you're female to get the right figure even if you're not). You will get housing benefit and council tax benefit too.
You won't need to claim jobseekers allowance.
This is all assuming your occupational pension really is too small. If it's less than £137 weekly you will definitely get pension credit.0
