Cast iron casserole

Hi

Think I read here that a new one needs to be treated before use.

Why and how? Better do it before I use my bargain from Aldi!

    Hi Gettingtherequickly,

    This thread may help:

Cast iron pans and how to clean/season?

If you search the Old Style board there are a number of other threads with advice on caring for/using cast iron pans. I'll add your thread to the link above later to keep the replies together.

  • Seasoning seals the cast iron, which makes it non-stick over time and prevents the pot from rusting. But is it enamelled cast iron? You don't need to treat it if it's been enamelled, only if you can see the metal itself.

You don't need to season the Aldi ones as they're enameled.

just to confuse matters - I got an aldi one that was enamelled outside and not in - so I seasoned it
