Got an email this morning for a free domain name registration offer from Freeola which says that they are giving away £10,000 worth of domains this week. The free domains are limited to the .EU type. Have applied for one and it all looks to have gone through okay. No discount codes or payment details were needed:

In the spirit of disclosure, I did used to work for a company that were associated with Freeola (called Inter-Mediates) and recieved this email as part of their promotional mailing list.

...or just drop the domain, as I guess they'd also charge something silly to transfer it.
Microsoft were doing this sort of thing a few years ago.
Might be okay for someone looking for a job who wants something more professional looking than @gmail.com or for freebies etc.
I wonder how many "bad taste" ones the .eu domain gets for folk reading the domain as the equivalent of "yuk" - moistgusset.eu and that sort of thing?0 -
OK - thanks - made the application. Not clear whether the hosting is free. Not much good without that. Anyone started setting up a site on their domain yet?0

No hosting is not included. You can get a limited amount of free Windows hosting through https://www.brinkster.com and point your domain at that. Although, Brinkster have restrictions on commercial use of free web hosting space.0 -
Yes - thanks epm-84
