New job offer - what would you do?!?

What would you do in this situation?!

I’ve been offered another job. Just now I work between Monday to Friday with a day off to look after my daughter and help with child care. Been here for a few years and I enjoy it but I’ve not had a pay rise in four years due to the current economic climate.

The new job would have me working five from seven days a week and I wouldn’t be able to have a set day off so I’d have to pay for my daughter to go to nursery. I’d also on occasion have to work until 11pm so I wouldn’t see much of my family at this point.

However in my new job I’d be on more money (some of which would help towards nursery fees) and the benefits would be better.

So do I stay in the job I’m in with the threat of redundancy later on in the year with no guarantee of a job or do I go for the new position with more money but where I’d see my family a bit less?!?

Dilemma!!

And also the threat of redundancy later in the year - with no redundancy pay.

    I would sit tight.

you need to remember also if your days off are varied you wont know what days to book at nursery so unless your nursery takes last minute bookings or your rotas are done way in advance you might find yourself needing to pay for nursery days "just in case" . This may well negate any savings made....I'd stay where I was if it was me.

  • It also depends on what "more money" is... if its £100 a week better is different to if it is £1,000 a week better.

How do commutes, career prospects (if your interested) and the other elements match up against each other?

if you have a job with a set day off and you can manage on your money stay where you are. Everyone wants so much flexibility nowadays you dont know your !!! from your elbow. It may be more money but last in first out and your daughter probably likes having you around that one day a week.
