I Feel let down

Hi I recently made a very bad decision in my life to leave my full time employment as a chef(a job that i wasn't the most thrilled about doing but it paid the bills as I have 2 children to provide for). I applied and got offered a place on a government backed apprenticeship scheme in an IT Sector training company. Everything was going to plan until 2 days before I was to start my training, i received an email explaining the government has changed the rules on any backed apprenticeship schemes from not having to be in employment at that time to now requiring a full time position with a company. Of course it was too late to retract my resignation.

I feel very let down in life as for trying to better my life by trying to go down a career path I am happy to do and also feel like i have let my family down i am not usaully one to worry or stress about knock backs but i tend to fill i am a victim.

Im writing on the forums just for some advice do i have any legs to stand on or do i just become a bigger burden to the tax payer which i was till i tried to better myself.

Any response would be appreciated
Sean.

Why not ask for your old job back? Maybe explain the situation to your manager? They would prefer to keep you as you know what needs to be done and would save them time in training someone.

I did a similar thing left my job for another which didn't work out and went back to my first job it can be a bitter pill to swallow but it's not the end of the world.
  • Sorry but the rules havent changed recently regarding being in employment. The guidance has always been 30 hours per week except in exceptional circumstances. Contact your local FE College who will be able to offer advice on what you can do. Also try National Apprenticeship Service for independant advice, or even Next Step - very good & free. Was the training to be through the employer, private training firm or FE College?
