Hunter Wellies

Options
Im thinking about buying some for me and my 3yr old son for when we go on muddy walks.
Are they REALLY any warmer or comfier than cheaper wellies?

Does anyone know the cheapest places to buy them online?

Thanks.

  • I've had Hunter's and am currently wearing Barbour's. I'm not sure how much comfier they are to be honest. I bought them because I have chunky calves and they had an adjustable bit on the side so I could get my porky legs into them. I find them better when worn with the proper fleece welly liners which fit over the top. If I had skinny/normal legs I'd probably just buy cheap ones and a pair of hunter/barbour liners.

I think for a 3 year old you would probably be better just to buy cheaper ones given how quickly his feet will grow.

  • That's a good idea...getting the liners! I might just do that.
And yes, NEXT do have some cute ones at the moment for little ones. I just thought that maybe they might be different inside than other wellies like some kind of lining or padding but it there just the same as any other welly I won't be buying them.
  • no they definitely aren't any warmer (well in my opinion anyway) or seem to have any extra thick lining. The welly liners have the Hunter logo on them so nobody will know what kind of wellies are underneath anyway!

Agree- warm and wellies of any type do not seem to go together! I wore fitflop boots most of last winter until it snowed and I ordered myself a pair of Hunter wellies in the sale (M&M direct- fantastic delivery service, delivered on a sunday because it had snowed they were unable to get to me on a friday when all other services had shut down and the roads were not gritted...I digress!!)

I wore them in the snow and my feet FROZE!! I wore with a thick pair of socks- same issue, I guess I had spoilt my feet with sheepskin and they had taken warmth for granted but even with two pairs of thick socks the cold still got in.

I see all these sheepskin lined wellies but I don't know if they'd really be a good idea, the whole deal with sheepskin is that the leather allows the boots to 'breathe' and so the anti-bacterial properties of the sheepskin can work. If your feet build up heat and sweat in wellies which are plastic coated you can't wash them or clean them and there isn't anywhere for the sweat to go unlike the leather which although isn't transparent does allow heat to expell through to a degree.

I'd agree with the cheaper version of wellies though- kids grow and have growth spurts at annoying frequencies- I can remember being a kid and having shoes that fitted with room in one month and the next they were too small and painful- you've no idea how hard I had campaigned to get those shoes in the first place!
  • girls, what would you advice for kids? we moved down to sea and I need wellies for my 6yo toddler, I am worried that he will be too cold in regular cheap wellies.
  • do you have anyone that could knit a pair of socks thick ones to go over ordinary socks, to go inside cheap ones then maybe get a bigger pair of wellies. I do that when i m going to walk the dog down the the beach.

I've had hunters and always had cold feet but could walk miles in them.

I got a cheap pair of Tayberry county neoprene muddies and they are both comfy and warm, best wellies i've ever had. Not cheap though, mine were clearance. Bit like muck boots.
