Credit report dates

As mentioned I have a few defaults on my credit report i checked it last night and I have one with HSBC from 31st August 2005. However on my report it says updated October 2011. I haven't had a letter for a long time from them and was now under the impression it was cleared from the record. So is it cleared 6 years from the default or 6 years since the update as I presume it can just be updated whenever as iv not updated the account or had anything from them about it

Comments

  • A default will come off 6 years after the date of the default.
As you defaulted August 2005, it should have come off your file August 2011.

You should give the credit reference agencies a call / letter / email and let them know that you defaulted August 2005 and should now be off your file. Depending on how you checked your credit file - if you did it online - you might be able to click something that says report an error - I can do this via checkmyfile.co.uk. :)
