can i get a Loan?

I am looking to get a loan and was wondering what my chances would be without having to tarnish my credit score, I am married and live with my husband but i am not on the mortgage as yet as i only finished my bankruptcy a month ago but this isnt now showing on my credit report, I am not working and am claiming tax credits and wondered if this would be taken into consideration for an income? my husband doesnt have much credit but he has 2 credit cards which are near to the limit so he is unable to get any finance which is why i wanted to find out if i could stand to get a loan, I already have finance but have only used 40% of the credit available to me, can anyone help with my question. many thanks :)

  • I don't see that you could get a loan without it being on your credit record. If you're not long finished bankruptcy, do you really want to be getting into debt again?
  • No chance to be honest as you have no income and are already using 40% of your available credit on finance (which is suprising seeing you only just had your banruptcy finished?) Apart from lack of income, I doubt a main stream lender would give you a loan as you will have to declare that you have been made bankrupt in the past.

Maybe go onto the DFW board and post a SOA to see if people can help?

What do you need the loan for ? Is it something you could maybe manage without for a while whilst you try to save for it ?

It seems a bit silly to me, to come out of bankruptcy and to be looking for a loan again so soon. If it were me, i wouldn't be looking for credit ever again.

I don't mean to offend, but did the bankruptcy not shock you into changing your ways ?

Lol just out of BR and you want to get another loan,
  • I went bankrupt 6 years ago due to an ex partner that stitched me up but i dont really want to go into that since then I have got married and turned everything around, yes I have a little credit bt with 3 kids who hasnt I manage it and its not alot that i cant handle the reason for the loan is that my husband is self employed and unfortunately today his van is no more, he is going to be hiring one for the next few days but we cant go on like that as it is expensive and he still needs to work, as for tax credits we dont get alot I was just trying to get my head around what we could do! my husband owes only about £3000 but as one of his credit cards is near to the limit he is unable to get any credit, all I want to do is to try and find a solution!

You could try getting a loan but as you dont work you might be unlucky as everyone has stated. Has he tried his bank ?
  • no not tried bank we went through experian to find out his credit score and what was available to him and it didnt help! it would be ok but its just something we cant do without he needs a large van for work! may have to go to family but that really would be my last option but seems we may not have much choice! not a good day! and im not laughing bankruptcy was the worst humiliating ordeal i have ever been through and I would never get into that situation again but sometimes people dont have options and should not be judged!
  • The experian credit score means naff all, its only a experian number, lenders have their own scoring system ;)

Has your husband looked into leasing a van instead? Personally I would approach the bank and try for a business loan for the van rather than a personal loan. If the business is ticking over, hopefully that should be a option for him?

Else some truck and van rental companies hire out vans at a monthly flat rate rather than a daily or weekly rate, so maybe this could be an option?
